This change, in a nutshell.
- Droidless Bankers still just as vulnerable to raids.
- Attackers will only need one unit: Droids.
- Bankers will have a little more attacking firepower with Soldiers. Making it easier to retake and participate in raids without losing ridiculous amounts of soldiers compared to the amount you attacked.
- Custom races to choose whether 20 points for Droids is worth the loss in Speed/Ops/Research.
Possible changes to consider:
- Increasing Droids networth to 2 per unit. Adding strategy for war builds meaning higher NWs pushing them out of range of more bankers if done wrong.
- Increasing Soldiers defence to 8. Making them a worthy choice for defensive options or to combat an attackers No Fear + other bonuses.
- Keep as is...?
Overall a decent change, will open up some extra strategy for the soldier only races. Ive never been a fan personally of retaking with solds considering the slowness of a Rev only to have 1/8th of the fleet stationed beat yours. Maybe it will be worthwhile getting everyone in on retakes more so now!!

I remember a few years ago that soldiers were changed specifially to a defensive type of unit so people would use soldiers...
and now we are back to square one with them because ppl want soldiers to attack with....
I can understand that the 2 attack was a bit low but jumping to 5? no way.
in my opinion: droids with 7 atk, 4 defence
and soldiers with 3 atk, 7 defence would have been better.
it keeps the necesity of soldiers for any player
makes droids unattractive for bankers
keeps droids just a bit better then soldiers since they cost racepoints to get.
saying the soldiers had a low attack is stupid. as they were changed to defensive units so defence should be their key point not their crappy attack. that's like saying your lasers are bad because they don't produce any resources.... they just weren't meant for it.
also: soldiers with low attack and high def and droids vica versa made attacking more fun.
you are able to kill of portals of one player with ease and the other player could do the same to u. with these new stat: whichever has the most droids wins. if both players make no or same number of screwups.
Solds should have been made cheaper ..

i think attackers now have the advantidge of putting 20 race points into other stats since having droids is pointless now ;p its just a tiny upgrade.
Well, I will say that any fam who does NOT have a Wardancer as a banker raider in their fam....is just makin a mistake. Having that 70% attack could be massive for an average sized attacker to be hitting bankers ![]()

Soildier
Att:4
Def:5
Droid
Att:7
Def:6
err nope...

there needs to be a significant reason why droids should be considered ( considering there 20point race cost)
i think the increased attack and def justifies thier price...

Back when we first changed the ground unit stats, we implemented it make them specialised for the particular role you were playing:

Here's their stat history (original -> 2008 change -> current change):
Soldiers
Ground attack: 5 -> 2 -> 5 Ground defence: 5 -> 7 -> 6
Droids
Ground attack: 6 -> 7 -> 6 Ground defence: 7 -> 4 -> 7
It looks like we're going backwards? They were changed previously because soldiers weren't being used and now they are being reverted back to their old stats.
Will be interesting to see how the take-up rate changes.
2/7 soldiers and 7/4 droids was optimal, it added more strat, units had there specialty, now its just get bulk droids, 20 race points isn't that big of a deal.

20 race points is a lot really
Its a lot to spend if youre a custom banker.
Positive attack bonus races buy droids and it pays themselves off automatically.
Humi, youre stats basically make solds worthless and gimps bankers too much who dont have droids. Droids are that amount of race points because in the hands of attackers they pwn!
Soldiers need to be left the defensive unit because its about the only reason why Revalons still exist. Having Droids twice their power means any two attackers can walk over a Rev.
