Re: Decide my life direction!

the point of working is to improve your quality of life. work is part of life, so how enjoyable the work is, is part of your quality of life. Different people would be effected by different degrees to different salaries. so the question is if the salary increase increases your quality of life more then the less enjoyable job would decrease it. and then something that is easy not to factor in is if you are currently single, what is enough for you to live happily now is not the same as how much you would need to be happy if you had a wife and family to support.

Re: Decide my life direction!

Justinian, a phd should always be a plus on your resume. I can't really think of any academic field where this is not the case (though your mileage may vary as they say)... it's like your basic university diploma, at the time it's less efficient than going for a (higher) paid job immediatly but ultimately you end up in a much higher pay scale. Of course like a basic university diploma if you flunk out without a phd then that's less efficient, but ultimatly that's mostly a matter of discipline (if you're good enough to get the job you should be good enough to do it if you apply yourself to it).

Sitting Duck, in what field would you be active with your phd... I'm very curious!

The core joke of Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy is that of course no civilization would develop personal computers with instant remote database recovery, and then waste this technology to find good drinks.
Steve Jobs has ruined this joke.

Re: Decide my life direction!

Follow your heart and/or dreams.  If it turns out to suck you atleast won't regret not having tried it. And not sure that your chances are ruined if you turn it down. I'm not sure but i'm sure they're not allowed to give out all that information to other companies.

Then again, are you really sure the Phd is what you want and if it is actually that much more interesting?  That's something you've got to decide for yourself obviously.

And remember, the ones who failed the most will be the most successful in the end!

What do I have to work with?

Re: Decide my life direction!

Asking advise from a bunch of nutcrackers here at IC wouldn't improve your life. Perhaps ask friends, family, parents?
