Heya!

9 months away, probably doesn't warrant a "check-in" post, but I was thinking of you all, and thought I'd drop by!

Nice to see that things are still somewhat standing, and we still have a place to log in and collect.  May it forever continue!!!

Merry Christmas all, and have a good and safe Holiday!! smile

Well, the good news is, I am moving into a different line of work as of tomorrow.  Not a promotion, its more of a side transition with potential to gain some more experience etc.  So yea, career-wise, its a bit of a shift! Looking forward to it!

The bad news is though, this means sadly I won't have time for IC anymore (this'll be viewed as good news for some though!).

I didn't really get to achieve what I wanted to here, but I hope I was able to help a little!  IC, despite being a funny weird type of game, has been with me for a loooooong long time.  Any community work, whether it was just playing, leading, modding, developing or whatever - has been in the hope that IC continues to exist and eventually gets back to its glory!  I'm not giving up hope in it yet, it does serve a niche, and I just hope, somehow, it can still grow!

For now though, I have no time due to RL commitments, but I will definitely still be around checking in!

Thanks all to those positive contributors who are also trying to help IC, while enjoying others' company and having fun at the same time.  The community is definitely the best part of IC and you guys should try to work on retaining that.

Special mention to KT!  You guys in the front don't really see it much (or refuse to admit it!) but she actually keeps this game going as a backbone and the rest of us just chip in here and there.

Take care all, and...try to be good to each other - there aren't many of us left!

if that doesn't work I guess mods will attempt to fit 'randoms' together.

We won't be doing that this time.  Plenty of avenues for players to find each other for a team, such as irc, or drafting forum, or w/e.

...which is why their votes weren't considered, I assume.

Thanks for the feedback.

In this case though, if someone hasn't even had the chance to vote - wouldn't that mean it would be better for them to have a couple extra days to prepare?

Especially considering the time extension was given to people to help them prepare and get their strategies sorted a bit more.  If players aren't on with 24hrs to go ...well, that's cause for extension, I would have thought.

Just to add though, like Rising Down said, something unique happens when Figs attack, and his description is kinda accurate.  Essentially you need overwhelming odds (either through numbers, or attack bonus/research) to be able to hit the 30%.

Any attacker can tell you this wink

I still think it has always been 15% on figs, and about the ground attak, people is losing 30% when attaking a portal, so that must be bugged anyway, why dont you test this Torqez?  its an important part of the game, the players should be able to know and right now it is very konfussing.

We test 1st to find out how it is working, then we kan diskuss how it should be working.

I'm telling you it's 30%, lol.

If you want to discuss how we can change it to make it better, feel free smile

Yep, this is a good idea.

We do need some more timers in this game.  Like the one you mentioned, and also one to indicate when the round actually starts, and ends too.

I mean, I don't see myself sending some bombers, droids and fighters to my neighbour because he's getting to close to my garden = p

But I send my soldiers through a portal in my living room to the other side of the galaxy! yikes

I think there has been some discussion recently about brining an HC gal back for a run.  It may happen soonish - not sure!  But yea, it has been a while since we've had an HC gal running.

No, for figs, it has been, and still is 30%.

Actually, there's no change to starting family size.  Infact, it's more this round.

Last round we started with 8 and increased it as the galaxy filled.

This round, we're doing the same except started with 9.

I've been asking for feedback on the round all throughout last round - check the Uni thread tongue   Always asking questions, and I even played and am available on IRC to talk to.

So yea, the reset was based on what we all perceived and observed and like I gave examples in this post, we pretty much do things only as we see the players want.  We don't have a reason to do otherwise - but like you said, it's Catch 22 with trying to balance with what we have left to work with.

I'm not getting you wrong - I'm just responding to what your'e saying.  Thought 'does' go into the round, and we're constantly gauging player feedback.  It doesn't happen 'after' a round is reset though tongue

With regards to the round could have been longer.  That's excellent feedback, cos usually people run out of things to do and asking for the round to be reset.  My personal view is (not been discussed with mods or anything or whatever), is, so what?  The round isn't supposed to be so long that you get to war whoever you want and what not.  Plan your round as a strategic objective.  Make key naps which help you grow and plan your wars you think you'll win and progress with etc.  You don't need to have to have fought everyone to deem the round "over".  Plan accordingly smile  Any longer than 6 weeks, and it might start to get too boring for others - but yea, just my opinion!

Lee wrote:

well if there was drafts those families could draft, i know people who are not willing to random simply because they dont wanna be stuck in a dead fam so they are idling in SN

This is the exact mentality I'm talking about.  Trust me, I know.  There's a LOT of old vets out there who are in this and not even playing SN, but just idle in forums or whatever.  If everyone played, and contributed proactively, we wouldn't be in this situation where you'd have these "dead" fams.  It really sucks.  So many talented players around, but all just waiting for each other, or someone to show initiative.  Really sad to see.

Edit:  If we could solve the above problem, IC would be back in it's glory, imo -_-

Lee wrote:

Also since this is a full random round and drafts wasnt allowed, deletes should have been enabled for SOR, so at least people can move around a little.

Umm -_- ....it's kind of exactly put in for this reason.  To stop people from deleting from said 'dead' fam, and instead contribute to it.  When delets were allowed, there'd always be 2-3 dead fams where people would just delete straight from it and try to random into a fam with more players.  Throughout the round, and you know this, these fams have very limited chances.  At least this way, everyone starts off on an equal footing - based on who's in your fam ofcourse, but then - that's all random.

Because out of the 8 initial selected leaders, imo, only 3 did anything significant?  We quickly learned that any volunteer for leadership, doesn't necessarily mean you can lead a team well, or have activity for that particular round.

So we thought to try the same, without having leaders selected for you, this time.

Lee wrote:

uv got a few fams with 2-3 leaders in...

How is this any different to having a draft?

(9 replies, posted in Universal News)

I don't see it as mutually exclusive.

Sometimes we can have drafts, and sometimes we can choose not to.  There's enough people on both sides of the camps that want both - or so it seems, anyway.  The round before last round, we had drafts.  Last round we had pre-selected leaders.  This round, it's purely random.  We're trying new things and keeping it varied.  Maybe next round we can have drafts again? I don't know - but the feedback helps in what we create for the next round.  It's useful to get this feedback BEFORE a reset or so - because as of late, we've pretty much done exactly what the players wanted.  They wanted a networth limit increase in Supernova - so we increased it.  The wanted a decrease, so we made a poll and decreased it.  Last round they wanted to try something new in Supernova and cried about people always deleting, so we tried something new with leaders and no deletes.  Etc!

Unfortunately, IC is in such a state that we can't have galaxies offering both - which really sucks.  Would be awesome to have a non-drafting galaxy and a drafting one.

But do you really want to split up our 90-100 players?  And having the ability to play in both wouldn't be that good either, since you can already play in 2.  Some people can't even handle the activity playing in 1 galaxy, let alone 3.

So, yea...

What are you talking about?  Ofcourse thought went into the setup.  It's exactly the same as last round, except for the pre-selected leaders.

And the fact we have 1 more fam added.

lol, what's wrong with you guys?

And you would be better with family's of 3-5  with Ally's

Lee wrote:

yup i agree more families in smaller sizes, bigger maps. allys is cool aswell, adds an extra dimension to the game...oh well

In an ideal world, yes - which is why we've had Allys before.  Definitely more fun.  However, of recent times, the IC community has displayed that they're not mature enough to handle allies.  We've had incidents of ally's killing each other.  Ally's changing at the drop of a hat, just to suit that particular situation.  Re-allying someone else to 2v1 someone else, or whatever other shenanings.  It's a huge mess, that sometimes you guys want policed (by way of restricting only 1 ally change and what not), and sometimes you don't.  So with all the tweaking, the whole system doesn't evenw ork properly now.  So yea, allies won't be happening for a while.

And the problem with tiny fams of 3-5 people, is that you usually only have 1 attacker. Then that's a lot of burden on just one person.  And if they happen to not be able to be on for a war or something, usually the fam gets smashed and is completely up to liberty to the fam that cancels, and usually they lose motivation or their round is lost.

You guys know all this - I dont even speak of this as a mod or dev.  This just what I've observed as a player even.  IC is a funny game where you want something, yet its the players driving somethign else and the mentality of the game (weedkillers mentions a "win at all cost" mentality) has been driving it into decline for years.

Meh.

We check for multies the best we can.

And you're able to remove people from your fam for inactivity after 2 days.

Not ideal, no - but that's the best solution at the moment, I guess.  If you have another, maybe you can develop the one in your Ideas thread.  Because the game has always been plagued by inactivity, noone really knows how to solve it.

Some people just random around til they land with people they want to play with.  In fact, a lot of people do that.  At least now, they can't keep deleting to do it - and have to be killed off to do so.  Again, not sure how to deal with it.  Modding around peoples attitudes is something pretty difficult to do! (and not something we should necessarily do, either).

The delete restriction is also still in place.  Players are not allowed to delete their empires.  Hopefully this promotes healthier competition and a longer term attitude towards playing the round.

Good luck all! smile

And their lasers and portals get ignored for intra-fam attacks!!
