I actually worked on a version of the engines they are using. It was on TV on the big ten network! If you ever see the Purdue special on there, I worked on that as part of a class.

Project Morpheus is a lunar lander that uses LOX/Liquid Methane. Today it suffered a catastrophic failure, which ended up with some cool pictures and videos coming out of it.

Early indications say:

Michael Baine, the project Chief Engineer posted on FB-
"Early indications show that the Primary Inertial Measurement Unit
died 600 ms into ascent."

Oh, yeah NASA contracts out Zero-G corporation to do it actually.

7

(13 replies, posted in General)

Yeah I guess it was a different flight then, that's weird because NASA has one flight week blocked off, did he do it with another program?

Yup, astronautical engineering just got my BS, going for MS now.

Yell: You'd probably find this entertaining: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TncbfacJXkc . No animals allowed on the experiments. For my rockets I can have invertebrates, and I think fish?

And yeah it was so cool, I want to go again someday but I think I'm going to save the money for my space trip.

Here's some rocket videos of the launch last weekend. Wind might be loud on your speakers, tried to turn it down.

First rocket is unknown, think it was the first of the day:

Rocket updates:

Someone complained these were too loud so I guess be prepared.

This is my level 1 certification rocket. Went about ~5000 feet. Went through 4 ignitors before we found a  good one. Was supposed to be a drag race but my rocket got beat off the pad by a little bit.. Still found mine first!

This is the rocket we're flying for our subscale launch for the NASA USLI contest. Goal is exactly 5280 feet, payload that measures humidity, temperature, pressure, irradiance, UV light, and takes pictures.

Here are some other cool launches from the last two weekends. Gus's skidmark motor:

You could either buy the same plane Zero-G flight experience has, or rent it out. They have already denied renting it out to smut companies recently, so its likely you would have to buy one.

You get ~30 seconds of zero gravity at a time, if one were making a video, this would be enough time to do a zero gravity strip tease in one flight (30 parabolas, turn around, 30 more parabolas). It costs $5000 a flight normally to fly on one, per person, so if you could make enough money to counter that, its a viable option.

As of right now, porn in space is pretty unlikely, as the launch costs are too high. However, if we were to colonize space and didn't have to deal with the large gravity well that is the Earth, it is much more likely that porn done without having to cut the film could be done.

If you already have music, there is something called Google Music that is coming out where you can upload your entire music collection to it and listen to it from anywhere. I got the invite but I haven't bothered to start using it yet, sounds pretty promising though

So I just got back from a debate about space, and I realized that not everyone in the world wants to do the same thing. I guess this is logical, but some of the reasonings behind the debate were just reasonings I haven't considered because I don't have them.

Which is why I thought I'd ask you all...

What the hell should the space program be doing?

When I say space program, I assume you think I mean NASA. I do not. Russia, China, USA, the Newspace movement, and the rest of the world all are integral in properly exploring space. But doing what? What do you think the denizens of Earth should be doing outside of our atmosphere?

After applying my elven bonuses:

Elven Wizard

NAME: Deta'Ka Elensar

PHYSICAL CHARACTERISTICS:

Everyone always looked at Deta'Ka a little differently. Being from an upper class family, the small elf had trouble connecting with the other elves. Before he was enrolled in wizard school, he read through his parents scrolls and started practicing. Even after starting a couple of small fires, his parents seemed generally pleased with his extraordinary abilities.

When Deta'Ka got to wizards school, he was treated differently for reasons other than being rich. The other students laughed at him and made fun of his strange birthmark. But Deta'Ka didn't want to socialize with those peasants anyway. They were far inferior than him in their learning, and he would routinely look at the older children's scrolls and study those instead.

During his last year of wizard's school, oh screw it i'm tired maybe i'll finish this tomorrow. this blows. sad
