"In any case you didn't answer the question - why do we need government to tell us what laws are required and which are not? Why can we not decide that ourselves? The idea of the court system is to be tried by your peers anyway, so why do they need to be told what is right and wrong, why can they not listen to both sides and decide who is in the right and who is in the wrong..."

first of all, i answered the question i quoted. 2nd how are they gonna pick who to be tried if you dont have police to investigate and arrest? 3rd laws provide a guideline. if there were no laws how would people get arrested and how would you know what not to do inorder to avoid getting arrested?

"IF government is too inefficent to run schools/hospitals/whatever why is it efficient enough to run a miltary/policeforce/whatever?"

its not efficient for the government to run military and police but  efficiency isnt what libertarians are promoting. freedom is what libertarians promote. libertarians promote freedom to do anything that doesnt limit other people's freedoms.

No need to correct the first line of You_Fool's post. It's too dumb.

yep; you_fool is just making himself look like a moron; not noticing the difference between not allowing someone to kill someone else, and not letting someone smoke pot.

well, i dont see how one could argue there isnt extra-terrestrial life. we've closely inspected two planets total. the earth, and mars. of those two, earth currently has life and mars almost certainly had life at one point if it still does not have life. even if you think we have searched the other planets and moons in our solar system well enough that we would of found extra-terrestrial life if it existed, which we most certaintly haven't, we're still talking about a insanely high ratio of bodies we've searched with life existing on them at one point and that with the trillions of bodies that life might exist on in the universe, it is practically a mathematical certainty that extra-terrestrial life exists.

and that my friends is the geekiest thing i've said all day smile

Eh, I addressed that

yeah, you addressed it by comparing us to animals and if its ok to do to animals, its ok to do to humans...

I would suggest, that you can identify yourself as being of any party and view, and still have minor disagreements with the party views. Any party (Republican, Democratic or Libertarian) contains a wide spectrum of views. But, Lateralis, based on the views you posted, I see you as a main-stream democrat, or an ultra-liberal republican. (NO offense meant. I am just posting my opinions.)

That is a response to your first sentence. (Mainly) I will address the rest in following posts.

well, we are talking about the ideology, not the political party. while the democratic party may support the same things. he may be a libertarian in ideology.

basically he's for social and economic liberties. just because he thinks that acouple things are so bad, that the government shouldnt give them the option to do it, doesnt mean he isnt on some lvl a libertarian.

dude, Trish Status is not hot, i'll be generous and give her a 6 though, maybe pics of her from 10 years ago? Heidi Montag is definitely hotter, i havent seen the pics to differentiate between 8 and 9. i admit i dont hand out perfect 10's to just any hottie.

very interesting post.

i mostly agree with "he does not love God as a child loves his father or his mother; he has acquired the humility of sensing his limitations, to the degree of knowing that he knows nothing about God. God becomes to him a symbol in which man, at an earlier stage of his evolution, has expressed the totality of that which man is striving for, the realm of the spiritual world, of love, truth and justice. He has faith in the principles which "God" represents; he thinks truth, lives love and justice, and considers all of his life only valuable inasmuch as it gives him the chance to arrive at an ever fuller unfolding of his human powers"

i was raised Catholic too, and i dont think theres an emphasis on Justice. Love and Truth sure, but religiously the only talk of justice is that God's idea of justice is different then man's and i think is more an explanation on why bad things can happen and not a central idea of faith. and really religion only about a part of Truth. not the scientific truth, but the metaphysical truth.
