I have two interviews today so naturally last night was a perfect time to develop insomnia.
Oh, and at this moment I am listening to my G/F's father trying to wake her brother ready to go to work. Have been listening to it for about 30 minutes. He is now late for work. Did I mention he complains that everyone still treats him like a child?
Grr, mumble, grr...

No offence intended, but if Belgian water standards are like French water standards then I am not surprised.
I'm confused; was that sarcasm?

But the Scots get a say in what money is spent where, even if it is English money being spent in England... I don't think you realise how powerful Scotland's position is in the UK.

I think the film speed would have been much shorter if BW and crew were on that bus.

"Being sentient has the strong possability of the realization of the benefits of animal husbandry"
Sure, even our non-sentient friends the animals know the benefits of animal buddies. Do you know of the Cleaner Fish? Even Predators dont eat them. Not exactly related I know but yes being sentient means that you should realise the benefits of husbandry, but the relationship with sentience is, in my view, effect rather than requirement.
"yeah the one about god is a touchy one, i stated it because if i was to imagine a sentient being from another planet, i would automaticaly assume they have some type of beliefs stystem. it may not be god, but i think some type of spirutual interest must be in place. and definately cerimonial burial. since the word sentient means "aware or finely sensitive in perception or feeling" i would assume that the death of any sentient being's family member would spark a curiousity in the afterlife."
Again I know exactly what you mean but again I must point to my childhood experience. As already stated I had no concept of God, and when introduced to the concept I didn't understand it. The same applies to death; One of my Grandfathers died soon after the church thing and I simply accepted it. The only thing I wondered was why everyone was crying and when it was going to end.
Maybe this means I have a simple mind, I don't know, but I still have problems with the concept of life after death, and God.
"sex for pleasure: i think this would cause more emotion and love and create a family environment with would allow more lifeform to evolve emotionlly."
Yes it would, but is it a requirement in order to be classified as sentient?
What threat?
The European Policeforce and European Army would end up as jokes thanks to the same bureaucracy that decided the Eurofighter should not have guns (I don't care if there was a good reason for it, I still say it's retarded).
What would the police use? Harsh language?
Or maybe his voice sounded different because he was angry? Just a theory, I don't hear much difference to be honest.
"joe, I'd like to hear your reasoning behind your opinion of female presidency (it is indeed an intriguing one, as it has caused such a stir). What female trait or quality is it that you feel would make, not Hillary, but _a_ woman inadequate for fulfilling the role of President? My response would be this: men have been having their crack at it for a few good years now, and it hasn't exactly turned out peaches, has it?
"
I think this quote, taken directly from Joe's first post, answers your question:
"Its not that I think Hillary has bad views. Its not that I dont think she'll be good for the economy, for universal health care, for foreign policy, or anything else. But what happened to the traditional American housewife? The Biblical morals are going down the drain for a secular view of "whats right.""

Anyone care to give a glance to the price/quality ratio? The price is
I wish the ending was slightly longer, I would love to know what Matt's full respose was, but I think it is safe to say it was much more polite, and probably much more logical too.
5) Iran is a threat to nothing but Iran.
<<"How does what they eat figure into this? If I had to decide wether something was sentient or intelligent my decision would not be swayed by its diet, be it bananas or babies."
I am refering to healthy diet. without a heathy balance of food, our mortallity would be severly weakened, especially our young.>>
So because I choose Burgers over Bananas I am not sentient? It may mean I am not intelligent, but not sentient?
<<5. Sex for plasure
"I can see how a rigid mating pattern could cause US some problems, but I dont see it affecting our sentience/intelligence?"
Being sentient has the strong possability of the realization of the benefits of animal husbandry.>>
Erm... I think you made a boo-boo ![]()
<<7. Religion or an idea of God
"So Spock isn't sentient? I think you strayed into the realm of personal preference with this one. I don't see how not having a religion or theistic concept would make something not sentient/intelligent, but then again I am an Atheist."
i too am an atheist, but i also realize that a sentient being must have a curiosity of a creator.>>
Sorry but this argument makes less sense than joe4444 on speed. Why MUST something have a concept of God in order to be sentient? I had no concept of god untill my parents dragged me to church, and even then I didn't understand it.
I guess I'm niether Intelligent nor sentient. ![]()
<<8. Politics
"I think I know what you mean on this one, you are referring to social structure, hierarchy, systems to ensure criminal punishment/social security etc. It would make it easier for us to get along with these theoretical aliens if they had a Political system, but neccessary for them to be classed as sentient? No."
i cant arggue too much about your logic on this one. but i willl have to say that politics may be a result of a sentient being and not a catalist.>>
That makes sense.
<<10. Walking upright may cause dignity in the sense of civilized nature(not proven but something to think about)
"Cute.
No.
Ok, ok: No because life on other worlds will have followed a very different path of evolution. What if we are talking about Gas-Bags, or Aquatic based creatures? What if they evolved from slugs or snakes? Not only is this requirement unfair, it's verging on racism."
okay, instead of wlaking upright, lets just say that a physical change that may result in better survival via navigation and overall agility against the forces of nature.>>
Which has nothing to do with sentience or intelligence.
<<you raise some good points and you can bet your ass i'm gonna be agueing the points with my professor on monday. especiallly the one about dreams and imagination.>>
Yeah, I remember my Physics teacher throwing this one at us... the one about God caused a real rift in the class, especially with the Mormon kids. I think they could not understand how something could be sentient and not worship god... or something like that... I don't know... They got pissy anyway. ![]()

It is the ONLY time you post. Oh, and I am not people I am a person. Singular.
>Uhh... yea, we all are. That is why we do not go make some random forum for ourselves and post crap where there is no one to comment back or say anything. We post here for the attention of others. DURRRRRRR.....
No we post here in order to discuss the world in which we live. By your logic the White House, Congress, Parliament, Duma, and the Vatican are all filled with attention seeksers.
>But really, why are people so angered?
Because your sole reason for not liking Hillary Clinton is that her genitals are on the inside.
>There are millions of Americans who will not vote for Hillary because of only one reason: she's a woman.
No, they aren't going to vote for her because she's a two faced hypocritical clinical psycopath.
>Some are more narrow-minded than myself.
Can I have this in writing? Signed and dated? In blood?
>Obviously many here have no idea about the culture of some of those people, and when one finally strikes your left-wing, anti-Christian presence, everyone decides to gang up on him and trash his views because they dont fit your "hippie, weed-smokin', 'lets legalize marijuana man....'" lifestyles.
How many Americans do we have on this forum? How many Right wingers? How many Bible Bashers? And how many of those are rushing to your defence? If you are right they should be defending you, right? But they're not, why is that? Maybe it has nothing to do with our political stance or religious belief?
>Sounds stereotypical, doesnt it?
Yes it does, glad you realise.
>Just reread your own posts, and perhaps a dose of reality will sink in. If every voter out there was like some of you people, I'd say its a pretty darned close-minded country we live in.
Because only <Closed Minded> people vote for someone based on their political views and plan of action regardless of their sex?
One of the things they do to prospective SaS members is to kidnap them and treat them... badly. The whole point is to see if they can break them psychologically.
There was a program a few weeks ago "are you tough enough?", with a group of 10-12 civilians who thought they could pass SaS training.
They all asked to be excused from the Kidnapping test after 24 hours, and one of them had to go to hospital.
To get a passing mark you have to last 2 weeks.
But Beefsteak is right, a military site would probably be more useful.
Interesting post Xeno, I'd like to ask some questions:
Given that we can now manipulate our environment to suit our needs how can we evolve further?
Of the few evolutionary paths now open to us, because we no longer adapt to our environment but adapt it to ourselves, how can we evolve further if we will not let ourselves evolve, even in a useful way? (I'm thinking of the routine removal of the sixth finger, a "mutation that is becoming increasingly common)
