Or you can pickup at the bar and have a chance of being a daddy 9 months later, in which case it will cost you 18 years of your disposable income.

Take your pick.

Flint is a virgin because he thinks sex is bad for you.
Either that or Highly trained security experts that protect your shopping cart at the mall find it hard to get laid.>

Honestly, your risk of catching a deadly STD from a medium to high range escort/prostitute is negligible. Your chance for catching AIDS, for example, is 1 in 1000 if you use a condom. Without a condom it's 1 in 100. What you want to be worried about is catching something that will make your life miserable, like genital warts or herpes. You can take shots to prevent the riskier strains of HPV, and well the best you can do for herpes is not have sex when there's a break out. The problem is that that's not very reliable, since some people have asymptomatic herpes or a break out is about to occur. But still, your chance of contracting herpes is 3 in 100 if you use a condom.

Btw Flint has been married before, and unless he had a sexless marriage I doubt he's a virgin.

PS: I'm taking a class on Canada, and the country seems funny.

Regional conflict
Quebec thinking it should have special status
A dual executive (PM/GG)
First provinces that formed Canada that have at least 40% more seats than ones that were added subsequent to the confederation (e.g Alberta has 6 and Nova Scotia has 10)

The city I live in has 70,000, and it's not on the USA map.

If you are conservative on economic issues but liberal on how people live their lives, does that make you a liberal or a conservative?

Acolyte,

Fair enough. But I am honestly skeptical that it could ever work. One reason is that coercive power tends to get abused, if you know what I mean.

Good to know you're above water and doing okay smile. When you have kids, please remember to have at least three. The world needs an increase in intelligent people!

So where do you work? I'm guessing some sort of biological work?

Skoe,

No, it's essential to an optimally productive and minimally expensive social organization. It's just not valued enough, because we're sadly moving toward a "nanny state."

Srsly?>

If A knew that ther gambles and mess ups would be covered by the government, it's not hard to imagine A becoming greedy and reckless.

But if A knew that costly decisions lead to costly outcomes (and their removal from the board of directors) and there was no one to helicopter them, then they have incentive to be cautious and plan more strategically.

When their returns are on the line, both CEOs and shareholders have incentive to invest in good of the company.

When there is no such incentive (a helicopter government or too many restrictions), then they have incentive to be short-sighted and take what they can as fast as they can.

My view, though, is that present government regulation changed the incentives of CEOs to being short-sighted hoarders. So in a sense, government regulation caused it, and now we need more regulation... It's like a web that creates more problems as it increases in complexity as you try to patch it up.

<Social Security should be privatized and we should put more emphasis on reducing the national debt and bring fiscal responsibility back to government. I have no problem with helping people when their down for a "short" period of time, I do have a problem with supporting people for years upon years.>

Agreed. I have no problem helping people who fell down for a while, but a lot of people abuse the system. But as we tried to patch up those abuses, we created a huge bureaucracy that substantially increased the cost.

Acolyte,

Hehe. I'm disillusioned that hiring paramilitary groups for protection could lead to a lot of competition (war) and coercion.

So how's life and the wifey? Any babies yet?

Specifically, I just want government to be small. It should concern itself primarily with law/order, infrastructure, security, education, and maybe a few other things. While I'm willing to make compromises, I can definitely say our government is larger than it should be.

I want

Individualism
Minimal regulation of the market
Pragmatic foreign policy
Small and efficient government
Meritocracy

Liberals go too far with their social programs, equality and providing a minimum lifestyle. I can make compromises on the minimal lifestyle part, like on education, but providing financial assistance for families to get a home blatantly crosses the line. What also infuriates me about Liberals is their "save the world" attitude. They just tick me off when they want to bus inner city kids to the suburbs schools or to invite new immigrants who are neither desired for their skills or education - but just to add to America's diversity...

But unlike conservatives, I am totally apathetic on religion. Let there be general tolerance of religion, but keep it out of government decision-making. Decision making should aim to deliver the best results, and strictly rely on empirical data.

The elite don't pay taxes, or it's an insignificant part of their income.

And really, a flat tax of 20% or so would probably close the loop holes that elites are able to use in order to avoid taxes, and it would alleviate the burden on the rest of us who are easily paying 50% of our taxes. We could then use that income to purchase our own health care services etc.

Actually, a lot of conservatives on IC-Politics just happened to come back from absence some time after the election. V.Kemp came back, and so did Key (somewhat), Acolyte, and Flint. We still have JA, House Jarvin, Black Wing, GOP, and a few other people still.

For a while I was pretty much the only conservative, lol. But then I'm an odd conservative, because I'm not interested in the religious and social authoritarian crap. I'm also anal about pragmatism.

China will overtake the U.S. within another 20 years anyway.

China ftw.>

China? LOL! Most global elites are of Western origin, and power is grossly focused on the West. If power does shift, it would be in Europe's favor. If that happened, due to cultural similarity, the US would become closer to Europe.

Otherwise I don't see how the US is likely to be overtaken by China. Furthermore, I fail to see how the US will lose its hegemony any time soon.

Edit: If you include the economies of the EU, Japan, and the US, their combined economies more than quadruple the size of China's.

ahahaha. I thought State's rights were by now reduced to only a formality, and by now the federal government was able to successfully centralize control. Looks like those Southerners need another beating, well in the future. In the mean time, the federal government needs some sane people in it and Obama out of office. We can beat up the South again later.

I'm an anti-Federalist. I am in favor of America as a unitarian nation-state, where states are nothing more than administrative divisions.

It's a problem with the prior case than with the way this case is being handled. The man should have been executed, mental disorder is not an excuse.
