You only imagine Chomsky says that because it affirms a larger patriarchy of self.

Actually that should read "understand" instead of imagine. One subjectively understands the text. And the text gets an active verb because the text does things; it affirms or recapitulates or asserts. And the direct object of the text's action is a hierarchy of some sort. One must always orient one's understanding of a text's action to some social system  And the hierarchy should be described obliquely so that the audience can more easily impose its own understanding in agreement

Thus "you understood chomsky to say that because he affirms a larger patriarchy of self". What does that mean? Its truth cannot be challenged without refuting the patriarchy of self and thats impossible because you the messenger dont know what it is. It could be Chomsky has been affirming a patriarchy of self all his life on purpose,or  in fact he might do it unwillingly. So asking him does no good at all.

Wrong: "The dog bit the man"

Right: "A dog was seen to revolt against the tyranny of sentience."

"We get a seasonal shift for one year and based on that one year enough evidence has been gathered to support a claim that we hare heading towards an Ice Age?"

no, aren't you aware that many climatologists said we were heading into an Ice Age thirty years ago?

"Fokker, they WANT to belive it, so any claim by anyone makes them certain that they are correct. And this no matter who it is. Weird people as I said."

Doesn't that also apply to all ecology minded people who don't have a PHd?

Shite out of luck

Chelsea will join Manchester United in the first ever all-England Champions League final. Chelsea took out Liverpool yesterday in a thrilling 3-2 overtime victory (4-3 on aggregrate). Didier Drogba scored two goals and was a constant menace, proving he's not just a diver, as Liverpool's manager Rafi Benitez has suggested. Frank Lampard, playing despite the death last week of his mother, smashed home a penalty kick in overtime and contributed to Drogba's first goal with a defense-splitting pass, one of several he delivered.

As I pleased as I was to see Liverpool lose, I was happier to see three goals in overtime. So often the extra period ends with no scoring, and we wind up with penalty kicks. It's a credit to both sides that they saved some of their best football for the extra 30 minutes.

There are those, and I'm one of them, who like to complain about how lucky Liverpool is. And the Shite certainly rode a fair amount of luck to get past Arsenal and into the semi-finals. But the real reason for Liverpool's success in Europe over the years is the team's refusal to be intimidated in big games before hostile crowds and its unwillingness ever to give up. Both qualities were amply on display yesterday. Thus, a club that has been unable for years to score at Chelsea's home fortress put in two yesterday, both in response to Chelsea taking the lead. In fact, Liverpool dominated the second half.

As for Chelsea, one would think that yesterday's victory, coupled with Saturday's win over Manchester United that pulled the club level on points with Man U, would serve as vindication for much-maligned Israeli manager Avram Grant. But despite the fact that Grant has succeeded where his revered predecessor Jose Mourninho failed (to get past Liverpool and into the Champions League final), Mourinho's predecessor Claudio Ranieri may well be right in predicting that Chelsea must defeat Man U in Moscow for Grant to keep his job.

Many of our astronauts are ph.ds so they understand what data they're getting

We sent geologists to the moon and they're astronauts now

Term just means they've been in space. They apply expertise to fields like robotics and meteorology and nutrition

Most our astronauts aren't pilots or engineers of the spacecraft

Shame on all of you. Why dont you put the game controller down and go out into the fresh air and sunshine and really shoot people. I bet there's a park right near your house!  Just stand in the grass and see all the interlocking fields of fire in lines of gold crossing the field like matrix code. Is that really air youre breathing? Strange beautiful with grass of green. Shiny beautiful perfect.

Here in America if you dont want an employer you can have that as a career goal, set out on your own or as a real extreme homestead on federal land. There's still trappers and prospectors out there in the woods... Though Alaska state residents all get $ from the state oil industry.

State paid is not the same as you paying for it. In the us Medicare system something like 10% of the program budget is payments to citizens. It costs $9 to give a citizen $1. However you figure your personal time it doesnt cost that much for you to pay cash.

America is getting too soft and greedy.  My parents generation would have been--and were--angry to be told that they should ask for govt charity. Now the anger is against those who remind people that the Earned Income Tax credit is charity and SCHIP is charity and any money from the govt beyond what you earned is charity and shameful.

Faced with the truth liberals and "progressives" fall back on cynicism and fatalism. Like the line Spielberg put in Golda Meir's mouth in "munich":  "all civilizations come to a point where they violate their own principles"--sure right before they collapse in their own decadence. Great civilizations solve problems and are proud of it. Liberals are like a guy who stands on the railroad tracks and lets the train hit them because "they're tired of running"

That is why your bank can shout itself blue in the face about our letting the dollar crumble and inflation triples food and fuel prices and nothing will be done to save the dollar. Our govt owes every man woman and child in the usa a home and utilities and health care, braces, cable tv, a car, food, clothing, a college education and a job with automatic pay raises and promotions and the ability to switch up employers. Whatever that costs is too bad, it must be spent. There is no longer any organized poltical opposition to this view in the USA. For now. But i think it just as likely as a Conservative revival, that a public loyal to a standard of living, would repudiate the constitution that failed to provide bread and circuses
