Are awesome.

Just spent 15 minutes at work trying to explain to this lady why I don't know the password for her email.  For whatever reason, as a manager at a library, I'm supposed to have all of her personal information stored in my head.  I should be able to help her log onto a simple email address because her son can help her without a problem, and it makes no sense that I should have any more trouble than he does, and if I can't log onto her email account I must be stupid and I should probably find a line of work that doesn't involve helping people with computers.

You're arguing that, globally, more people should remain homeless, more people should starve, more people should suffer for lack of medical care, in order to stop using internal combustion engines?

Because using more expensive modes of transportation has real costs. That's what expensive means. At this point in time it's hardly arguable that the pollution from engines does far less harm than the benefits of their extremely economical energy.

We're all happy that you're satisfied with your standard of living. And that you can make some sort of alternate-fuel transportation work, even though the technology is in its infancy and many of us even commute to work on it, let alone do more. And that you can afford the extra costs of these more expensive energy sources. But the fact is, most of the world does not enjoy this standard of living, and they're going to use oil for a long, long time. And they could care less what anyone thinks.

Unless plant and animal life is dying in western nations today, I think we can safely conclude that cars aren't going to cause the apocalypse.

Actually, I'm arguing that this argument is just part of a conspiracy to keep us from finding Sasquatches.

But considering that 90% of my transportation is done via bike which cost me $25, or walking...yes, you're correct in saying that many people are unable to afford my standard of living.

Global warming doesn't exist, it is just a conspiracy to get us to focus on finding new means of energy instead of focusing on finding Sasquatch like we should be.  The government has kept the Sasquatches a closely kept secret for decades, and this is just a new strategy, similar to how Pearl Harbor was never really attacked.  There's nothing wrong with using oil, and in large quantities.  That black smokey stuff coming out of the back of gasoline fueled vehicles is good for you and hightens your senses, they're just scared if we are able to inhale enough of it we'll find where all the bigfoots (bigfeet?) are hiding.  We should go back to driving suburbans that get 5 miles to the gallon!

Also, the moon landing never happened.  It was a constructed video that was meant to draw our attention away..from...you guessed it...the Sasquatches.

1. this seems to be a good post for the questions forum

2. Yes and No, you can find all the changes in the announcement forum, but it takes some digging as there's no rolling list of changes.  Just announcements that were made when the change took place.

Hey now, there is nothing wrong with having a law that has proven to be unenforceable!

On the flip side, one issue I have always had with the pot debate, is how the same people that speak out against all the reasons pot should stay illegal will go nutso if you suggest that alcohol and tobacco should both be illegal.  Personally, I don't care about pot, aside from the fact that by legalizing it and properly taxing the distribution we could both decrease national spending, and increase national revenue by billions of dollars each year.

My issue is, there are countless amounts of discussions like this one.  "Pot might make you crazy according to a recent study" "Pot might hurt your memory according do Dr. Pluto at the National Institute of Douchebaggery"  Well...a heck of a lot more research has been done in regards to tobacco products, and factually there use WILL shorten your lifespan, greatly increase your risk of lung cancer, cigarette will greatly depreciate the value of your home if used in doors, chewing tobacco makes you look like you're at least half retarded, and smoking will make you smell like shit.

But let's keep pot illegal, because it might make us crazy.  There's no problem with tobacco, it only kills you.

In 2004 the federal government should have stepped in, slapped the bankers who were handing out loans like candy, and then put them in timeout until they learned how to do their job X(

Haven't the past few years established that in this climate tax cuts aren't creating an increase in spending great enough to create the revenue needed?

Has no one in this country taken a basic economics course?  We should have raised taxes 8 years ago when Bush was cutting them.... do you know what happens when you increase the government spending and decrease the money going in....deficit!  Conservatives continually talk about decreasing the budget in order to decrease the deficit, and it would to a point, but if we are ever going to begin digging ourselves out of this hole we will need to both increase government revenue and decrease the spending, doing one or the other isn't sufficient.

A lady just came in complaining about how she didn't want to pay her taxes, but she wished that she could get more foodstamps.  If my desk wasn't in the way I would have strangled her.

If the justification for no pot is that some people are genetically predisposed to an increased chance at harmful effects, I expect alcohol, tobacco, pain killers, any other narcotics, anything containing gluten, anything containing lactose, nuts, and anything else that may cause someone harm due to their genetic make up.

And bees, bees kill people too.

They aren't banned in all schools, there is a separate lunch period for kids with peanut allergies here.  And southwest still offers free peanuts!

I don't really understand why this study is significant.  It doesn't say that pot is bad in general, it says that pot is bad for certain people that have a genetic predisposition to "possibly" have psychosis triggered by the use of cannabis.

It seems similar to certain allergies.  I know people that face potential death from eating peanuts, but if they ever made tried to make peanut butter illegal at a federal level people would rise up in protests.  All this study does is reinforce the idea that it is extremely difficult generalize what is healthy on a for everyone, as it varies from individual to individual.
