Actually the poor go into emergency care centers with everything from diarrhea to a cold.  Average ER wait time in the LA area is 12 hours, in part because the county doesn't want to pay for emergency care centers and one got closed for being lethally incompetent. 

Health Insurance is basically a ponzi scheme.  If most people got back as much or more value than they paid in premiums, it would go broke.  That's why """republicans""" like Mitt Romney thought mandated insurance is a great wonderful idea.  It is! for the insurance companies because healthy people pay for benefits they don't use, that's one of the ways insurance companies survive.  The other is refusign to pay for things.
