1. EVERY TIME it really hit the fan, the US govt ordered all Americans to sell their gold to the Govt at the Govt price and gave them prison time for owning gold after that.  EVERY TIME.

2.  Food not gold, not a bad idea.

3.  Taiwan? I suspect Obama, Clinton and Gates (shit what a combo) would shove Taiwan to the PRC just to buy peace.  I mean, meeting with Beijing, agreeing on a timetable for occupation, and then telling the leaders of Taipei "sucks to be you, argue any more and we'll throw it to the UN security council and vote for UN peacekeepers to oversee the transition instead of your own govt.  We don't care, we need the PRC more than you anyhow"  FFS we already did it with Georgia.

4.  Yeah the Right said Bush was goofy, that's why the Trouble Asset Recovery Program FAILED in the House the first vote.  Then the RINOs whored their Yes votes for pork.  The Right ignored the Romneyite McCainiacs who said "$$$$ yay! yay yay yay! Fear & Panic & Doing shit just to do shit"

Obama would permit them to grab it.  But then the Palins in all their legions would swarm from the tundra in a midnight snowstorm and take it back.  The Ruskis know this, which is why they just fly planes around Canada and snarl like dogs.

Don't agree BW

Bank reserves before Sept 08 were about $2 billion, in Feb 09 they were $745 billion

The banks are sitting piles of cash.  This is not a crisis of liquidity but of confidence.  You put that $745 billion on the street you can lose your shirt.

Everybody who does an audit takes a massive hit---they are holding worthless paper.  The ones who don't, AIG, get BILLLIONS from the federal govt.

US banks got the $$$$.  Dubai got the $$$.  They're sitting on it.

Why risk your very neck speculating on free enterprise when Uncle Sucker will do it for you?

Deflation--- HURRAY.  When your prices were based on EVERYBODY seeking financing n the sale because they didn't have the cash, and got loans because the bank expected the new owners would sell out before paying off the loan by the terms...PRICES WERE TOO HIGH.

you're gonna need a PhD in economics to tell the difference between the Bush recession and the Bernanke recession.   Hiking rates and freezing money supply leads to recession.  And no federal payola either!  Think America will allow that?

Atheism/humanism is a parasitical system offering nothing good of itself, but only by insisting religion is worse...even survival of disease and personal wealth are not good in and of themselves, only to a "reasonable" degree--as determined by the Social Masters.  A perfect creed to create and maintain a slave populace that has no standards by which to condemn their masters.  Taxes too high--compared to what?  Promiscuity too rampant--compared to what?  Wages too low--for what?  You can't claim any "rights" because your existence isn't the gift of some mythical being, you're an accident of sex and a woman's choice, and a cog in a network--and imagining differently is antisocial and to the degree you refuse integration with society, you are demonstrably insane.

>>People attempt to do plenty of good work for the name of God. Unfortunately this is where the 'destruction' starts. Yes, abstinience is an effective method to prevent the spread of HIV/AIDS. But it is not the only method. In schools you advocate the teaching of creationism alongside evolution. Why, when it comes to having a direct tangible effect on saving the lives of millions, should the teaching of condoms not be presented alongside abstinience? Both are effective - but because of your religious dogma, you say that only abstinience is acceptable. You are therefore not doing any good work, at all, in the name of Jesus and God. Why must the work you do be in the name of God? Why not follow the example of Doctors without Borders and Engineers without Borders and take part in truthful, practical work that does not spread Christianity? Do you think that you will be treated better once you arrive to Heaven, than a Doctor who works hundreds of volunteer hours? Too bad that some of those people didn't listen to you about abstinience and have HIV, but at least you spread the word of God. If you believe that HIV was created by God to punish, then you are truely deluded.<<

The Pope is quite right that condoms are not the answer to AIDS in Africa.  Condoms or not, there's no safe way to get it on with 12 different partners a month.  You gotta address the problem of people having a dozen different sexual partners a month.

Yes we will be better treated for serving Christ than in ignoring Christ.  Guess what fella-- mankind has a 100% mortality rate.

>>And finally, one from Mother Teresa, who even had doubts about God in the end.
"Lord, my God, who am I that You should forsake me? The Child of your Love-and now become as the most hated one - the one- You have thrown away as unwanted - unloved. I call, I cling, I want - and there is no One to answer - no One on Whom I can cling - no, No One - Alone... Where is my Faith - even deep down right in there is nothing, but emptiness & darkness - My God  - how painful is this unknown pain - I have no Faith - I dare not utter the words & thoughts that crowd in my heart - & make me suffer untold agony.
So many unanswered questions live within me afraid to uncover them - because of the blasphemy - If there be a God - please forgive me - When I try to raise my thoughts to Heaven - there is such convicting emptiness that those very thoughts return like sharp knives & hurt my very soul. - I am told God loves me - and yet the reality of darkness & coldness & emptiness is so great that nothing touches my soul. Did I make a mistake in surrendering blindly to the Call of the Sacred Heart?
- addressed to Jesus, at the suggestion of a confessor, undated."<<

heck why bother with her, go for the gold
"My God My God, why have you forsaken Me?"  Jesus Christ on the Cross.

guess it escaped your attention that she still got up in the morning and bathed people's pusridden wounds in the name of Jesus. That is the fruit of Faith.  Not jumping around feeling all faithy.

>>While political party affliation in the US is not a perfect indicator of religiosity, it is no secret that the "red states" are primarily red because of the overwhelming political influence of conservative Christians. If there were a strong correlation between Christian conservatism and social health, we might expect to see some sign of it in the red-state America. We don't. Of the 25 cities with the lowest rates of violent crime, 62% are in "blue" states and 38% are in "red" states. Of the 25 most dangerous cities, 76% are in red states, 24% in blue states. .. The 12 states with the highest rates of burhlary are red. 24 of the 29 states with the highest rates of theft are red. Of the 22 states with the highest rates of murder, 17 are red.... <<

They have names.  Name them.  Name these godly states with their major metroplises. I say its a crock.

>>The dubious link between Christian literalism and Christain values [one would assume that they would display them more frequently than non-christains] is belied by other indicies of social equality.  Consider the ratio of salaries paid to top-teir CEOs and those paid to the same firm' average employees: in Britain it is 24:1; in France 15:1; in Sweden, 13:1; in the US, where 80% of the population expects to be called before God on Judgement Day, it is 475:1. Many a camel, it would seem, expects to pass easily through the eye of a needle.<<

So what? Concern for the poor is clearly a religious superstition.

>>"While you believe that bringing an end to religion is an impossible goal, it is important to realise that much of the developed world has nearly accomplished it. Norway, Iceland, Australia, Canada, Sweden, Switzerland, Belgium, Japan, the Netherlands, Denmark and the United Kingdom are among the least religious societies on earth.<<

Japan had it bombed out of them...

Poor Americans can afford meat.

>> and infant mortality....<<

Um I missed the class where they listed "printing money to loan yourself" as capitalist

Yes we will have hyperinflation us rightwingers have said so for six months.

I should have known it would hit because Fed Chairman Bernanke always dismisses inflation with a terse sentence--after we beat the recession we'll whip inflation with reduced money supply and higher interest rates. Get away kid, you bother me.

What this means is that economic PhDs will be able to distinguish between the Bush and Obama recessions, but to the 300 million other Americans its gonna be one long recession. For the program for beating inflation does not permit for growth. The last time we did it was 1982, which is why the current recession is only the worst since 1982--it sucks having a recession where the government pumps no money into the economy. It can be very corrective but it sucks. How Bernanke thinks he will be permitted to do that to people I don't know. He does not strike me as a very savvy guy.
But lemme assure you all that it is safe to buy dollar securities! Safe as houses--oooh.  Uh well, if you keep buying bonds there's no reason we can't afford to pay off your older bonds!  And that's America promising that to you!

You offer your own experiences with sunburns as evidence proving your ozone hole is so very much worse than anything anywhere else.  I'm saying I got personal experience to match, and we don't have any ozone hole.  You start pouting that I doubt your hole.  So sorry to steal your big claim to fame down there

"I CHOSE"??  It's been the position of the green movement for 25 years that there is a TREND of pollution since industrialization, and it matches a trend of global warming, and the two are linked and causal, and ongoing, and if we cut pollution we cut back on warming

since we are still polluting away and the weather is COOLING so so sooo sorry but the FACT no such trend as described exists is quite relevant

if you're talking embryonic stem cells then you're talking failed experiments

Yeah nobody can map the weather, so everybody can STFU about $$$ up front in the name of future weather.  I call on you to spend $0.00 for the environment

Yeah I have no ozone hole, and we have bad sunburns.  So what does that tell you.

> oh and please explain why its not as warm as it was in 1999 even though CO2 has increased every year.

I thought you were better than this.  I got my giggles, thanks. It depends on what measurement you are talking about...

Global temps overall? Lets say for argument's sake that today, March 19th 2009, it was the coldest March 19th in the last 10 years, yet the CO2ometer was pretty high today ----> Woah crazy global warming must have nothing to do with CO2!

Where you live locally? I'm going to assume you are not so ignorant that because it's (lets say) snowing more at your place that global warming is false."

Yuk it up, laughing boy.  The atmosphere isn't retaining HEAT more than it did 10 years ago, despite a rising concentration of "greenhouse gases".   I don't mean any one day.  All year long.   It's not as hot as it was 10 years ago.  It wasn't very hot last year.  Or the year before that.  The planet is not retaining heat like you pretend it does.

Air pressure isn't up either, our atmosphere isn't measurably denser, so....

You guys still can't model the hydrosphere. So what? So shut up about climate change until you can accurately model the single greatest engine of global climate.  How much sea water evaporates determines weather.

and I'm on the 28th parallel and I've had days where I got a sunburn through blue jeans.  a lot depends on the humidity and cloud cover density in teh sixteen miles of air overhead.  What? "Not a cloud in the sky"?--did you see stars in the sky at noon?
