The Libertarian party isn't just too scary to pansies who hate freedom, it's relatively poorly managed and marketed as well! (their Facebook page makes me sad)

Not expanding social freedoms can be corrected in the near future. Laying waste to our economy with massive deficits and production-stifling industrial engineering (intentionally spiking the price of fossil fuels in order to impoverish Amerika) will reverberate in the standards of living of Amerikans for decades.

This is in addition to the fact that Obama is against social freedoms. He support's Bush's unconstitutional spying and imprisonment policies. He has no intention of legalizing any drugs or prostitution. He has no intention of removing the federal government from marriage but rather supports expanding it.

How you can mistake Obama for a supporter of social freedoms is beyond me.

That said, I'm not voting for either. You're all a bunch of ignorant hypocrites. tongue

I just want to share this little marvel of idiotic thought:

"As to who is backwards and who is progressive, the hint is in the names of ideologies, conservatives (generally right wing affiliated) is about keeping things the same, progressives (generally left wing affiliated) are about moving forward."

Hahahahahahahhahahaha!

So progressivism/socialism/communism is inherently "forward." The name really indicates this. Anyone with such a pathetically simplistic understanding of politics--based on word games--should recognize their limitations and not annoy people with political conversation. This includes spamming forums.

But wait, half of America pays no income tax and receives some form of government provided income. It's already quite "progressive" aka socialist/communist. Income and standard of living are often already given by government, controlled by government.

Keeping things the same is already socialism for half of our population in America. "Progressives" in America want to keep things the same or move them backward, in terms of freedom, incomes, and standards of living. "Conservatives" (insofar as their supposed libertarian fiscal policy) in America want to move things forward: More freedom, an end to corporate welfare, and higher incomes/standards of living for all.

These are generic terms. They've been co-opted and are rarely EVER used for their original, generic meanings in current Amerikan politiks. Referring to the generic meanings as if they say anything of the people identifying themselves by these terms today is just ignorant and stupid.

So you're not going to make any point whatsoever.

BUT you ARE going to CRY about someone who did!

People aren't united behind Romney. And I can explain why. I can explain why they won't bother voting. Or why they'll vote for other people.

Yet when you say people aren't united behind Obama, you are unable to explain why they won't bother voting or they'll vote for other people. I have explained why many will still vote and vote for Obama; the self-interests and ideals of his primary constituents are very obviously served and best-served by Obama. You haven't responded with any explanation of mitigating factors which make this less so than I implied.

Mace,

"But 100% self determination is a fallacy and is dangerous."

What's with this fallacious bull[spit]? Nobody is talking about some sort of "pure" self-determination, which would presumably require 0 government and 0 taxes and some fictional nonsense. You've still given absolutely no explanation of how "self-determinatin" is somehow "harmful."

This isn't difficult subject matter. You said it's harmful. You've not explained how or why, even when I presumed you hated freedom. Absent this explanation, it still sounds like you hate freedom. If you'd like to explain how self-determination is harmful in a way which is not disdainful/fearful of freedom, feel free to do so. This is a forum. We're all waiting.

Yes, stuff in the world affects us. Self-determination is what occurs when people have enough freedom to make choices and be rewarded for exceptional labor, effort, intellect, and insight enough to ultimately choose their own level of success in life. Everyone knows this stuff already, or they certainly shouldn't be spamming a forum about it.

The Yell was referring to things which one desires to change being "correctable." One has to make no judgements of any particular behavior to appreciate the ideal that individuals should have the freedom to affect any changes they decide are desirable for themselves. Bickering over any individual's judgement of what needs correcting misses the point.

Jesus [cluck] this is a stupid level of exchange.

You're not exactly setting an example.

Why don't you try, making a point in the process? You're implying that you're not only capable, but that it's your normal mode of responding. Where's the evidence to back up this assertion? I don't strongly disagree. I'm open to evidence and explanation of how the "left" may be legitimately fractured. But you're not exactly convincing me, let alone anyone else.

Like this, you're spamming and I'm talking honestly about the topic. I have twice offered my thoughts and pointed out that you haven't made any case for your claims--absolutely no explanation whatsoever. This would be the third time.

If I'm legitimately the spammer and you're the intellectual heavy-weight, shouldn't it be the other way around?

"the crazy statements"? You don't have very competent news sources, do you?

Lots of crazy liberals want mankind living like it's the stone-age to save the planet. Lots of crazy liberals support eugenics with a new modern-day presentation. And plenty of other radical communist, authoritarian doctrine.

I don't hold these views against socialists/communists/progressives/democrats/"the left" in general. I do no such thing.

I make fun of ignorant hicks who think they're socialist academics all the time, but I don't do it in such a dishonest way. Sure I'm mean, but I don't base arguments on meanness. Most people don't hold eugenicists and eco-terrorists against Democrats and American "liberals."

This guy is a representative, so it's legitimate news that he said it and it's a legitimate reaction to want his party to call for him to abandon his race. If they don't go through with their threats to withdraw funding, I'll certainly accept that as substantiation of Republicans being crazy. That's what's lacking here: Any substantiation that this whacko represents conservatives any more than whackos on the left represent liberals.

There are plenty of crazy liberals, but they don't receive this attention as if they represent liberal views as you claim here. Barack Obama, as a state senator, supported legislation allowing doctors to deny babies born alive after failed abortions medical care. I think that's pretty crazy, for a people who like to think themselves civilized and compassionate. But things this crazy--and much worse--are ignored regularly and never attributed to the general consensus of liberals in America.

I think your claim that "both sides" do it is pretty baseless, generally speaking. I think it's irrational and dishonest to pretend, either way--by either side--and not legitimate political discourse. And I think it's especially bizarre to engage in this dishonest, irrational discourse, claiming "the other side does it too," when they usually don't--certainly not to this extent.

And I'm not a "conservative" so you can kiss my arse. I don't like irrational hypocrisy by any side, even if they're both wrong. tongue

I asked you for facts. You didn't present any. Way to take the intellectual high ground.

I have explained why Obama ultimately ends up with a pretty united socialist/welfare bum base: Complain as they may, they still support him. Sure they complain he hasn't gone socialist enough, but they have no better option. They're not voting for Romney. And a lot of them show up as surely as they want a bigger welfare check and unemployment for 2+ years.

Where is your explanation of how they're actually split beyond complaining that he's not socialist enough (he couldn't get more socialist policy passed: his policies don't really even speak of him but of the composition of Congress)? I didn't demand citations, I asked you for an argument.

You haven't made one. You're just spamming.

What he said isn't conservative policy.

How does it make conservatives look insane?

I mean, aside from people like you pretending it's their policy. Is there any rational basis for your statements, or are they predicated purely upon dishonest discourse intended for consumption by morons?

I love all the whining this thread brings out.

If a lot of poor people abuse all kinds of drugs and produce nothing, that doesn't magically equal out with some middle class people using cocaine and still holding their jobs.

Such notions are just so stupid.

Of course they're united.

Every socialist knows he's their best candidate by far.

Every welfare bum knows he's their best candidate by far.

When expansion of federal power, the authority of the executive branch, and handouts are your sole concerns, it's easy to unite.

Where are there any major divisions among the left? The only things commies complain about is that Obama isn't commie enough. This strikes me as ignorant, because he only held back JUST enough to get things passed.

He wanted a "public option." He wanted "cap and trade." He wanted to redistribute more wealth. He wanted to pay off his supporters billions more--both by bailing out unaffordable public sector union pensions via "stimulus" and big money backers via "green" handouts.

Every complaint I see is either lip service to being objective, or ignorant of the fact that he's not a dictator and his will is not law. He barely pulled off Obamacare after tons of effort, and even that he had to hold off on the "public option" to pull off.

Evidence that there's any real division on the left, please?

This is absolutely hilarious.

I find it bizarre that you think a bunch of socialists are going to turn on their president.

They're going to give him a rare poke because he obviously deserves it and they want to preserve the illusion of being objective for REALLY gullible people.

At the end of the day, he's their boy: He'll move this country in the direction they want more than anybody else. The love affair will continue.

It's provides less, because it taxes you until you're poor and you can't even afford decent healthcare.

While socialists/communists/progressives deny every word you say.

Doesn't medicare already guarantee benefits, The Yell? =/ Hasn't the terrible scenario of decline you outline been happening for decades already?

[off topic]

The notion that uneducated criminals are making decisions based on what's best for them, not what propaganda has been shoved down their throats all their lives, and not what gives them the most free stuff right now, is laughable.

If they knew what was best for them, they probably wouldn't be criminals without educations or marketable skills. To presume that irrational actors are remotely rational is illogical. I made this mistake myself in the season 1 episode, "The Galileo Seven." Never again!

A third factor is, of course, likely. Discrepancies between the success rates of the poor of different cultures screams that it must be [largely] cultural. But it's also likely to be tied into the same corrupt aristocracy which benefits from keeping the poor poor, and its voter base large.

It's certainly possible, Zarf BeebleBrix. But it is not likely. tongue
