tbh you came up with the idea, and just made it this way tor,

Firstly, this isn't my idea.  I'm just facilitating.  It's apparently what the players want.

Devilz wrote:

so we should just change it up, to maybe 2-6 teams and 1 month round, shake things up a bit, imo

I think you seriously overestimate how this will turn out.  Smaller number of fams is not the answer.  The discrepency will be too huge, and you can't do anything.  We've tried small number of fams before, and we've tried smaller number of players per fam too - niether work well.

Unfortunately, we have a tonne of problems, which largely arise due to the less players we have.  In an ideal world, we'd bring back 20 players per fam.  Now that was fun!

I think this is where a lot of where the problem lies in IC today, sadly.  No player initiative.  You guys expect the Mods to do everything.  Hell, I was even the one to message you, to see why you weren't leading - despite ICD telling me that you and him both would be doing this. So yea ... /shrug

Everytime ICD comes to me with an Idea, I tell him we're not against anything and that he can create a thread to gain support.  Next thing I know, I get called lazy, lol.

Render, Warchild UK were exceptions to this.  They actually show initiative and get stuff done.  ICD been similar as of late, at least he's trying hard to affect change.

You guys forget, that we're players too.

You guys don't understand, that a players activity is driven by the situation.  You seriously can't think that activity is instilled into people by mods.

From previous rounds, and every round, we can see a LOT of 'vets' playing, but they just idle in the fams.  People who you think are inactive, are just sitting idle, doing whatever they want.  Some of them are actually really experienced people.

One example is hardcore4eva.  Joined up, and promised to do stuff - and we never saw him since.  Another example is me.  I joined a family and have literally done like 1-2 things on my own initiative.  Else i've just REALLY lazily done what my leader has wanted.

It's like Arby said, playing with 2 actives or 10 shouldn't be the differentiator.  It's up to the leader to drive his fam, and get people motivated.  Yes, there are some people who aren't going to play - but we have the ability to remove those after 2 days.

You can't do a player draft - because that limits the player pool.  You can't guarantee who will be there at start, and who will join later.  Our main galaxy is always meant to be open to all.

What ends up happening though, is if you have normal drafting then the most active people (there aren't that many) get into 1-2 fams and they create super fams.

The best you can do, is at least try to get competent leaders and forcefully split them up (kinda like what this idea does).  Then just have a randoming session for everyone else.  That's what it's meant to be - random.

We 'could' look into the option of removing the delete option at round start (e.g. for 2 weeks or something), but I need to still figure out if this is possible.  It was already suggested by Gwynedd, so it's something I'll look into.

Wait what ...so sometimes drafting creates superfams ..like this round ...and sometimes letting everyone random, creates superfams?

So, someone compile a list of competent leaders and volunteers for this.  Time is running out.

Why does this have to be Mod driven?  You players want it, so you should show an interest for it.  Don't need to rely on the mods for everything - you've already gotten committment, saying we'll try it, given there are sufficient and decent people to do it.

After 24hrs ...doesn't look that promising hmm

Ya, maybe - I'm not sure who and when it was changed.  But now, you don't need to have someone marked 'inactive' to not blow the planet.

Planets will never blow up now, in intra family trades - regardless of networths.

No, you just feel it more.

10 players leave, when you have like 500 - not a big deal.  But when 10 people leave when you only have 100 ....that's noticeable.

No, this is incorrect.  Planets, intra-fam will no longer ever blow up.  (Infra will still be razed if less than 70% networth though).

Inactive tag provides less morale loss, for intra-fam only.

Another thing that needs to be removed really.  The less morale should apply always, anyway (marking people inactive for this purpose is a bit redundant and silly).

The inactive Tag's use other than this (and in my opinion, should be its only use), is to be able to remove a player from your fam, once they are on 1 planet.

With 4 days to go, for the end of the current Starburst Round, we have created an interest thread to see how it would go, if we mixed up the settings a little.

Check out this thread for further details and comments!

That wouldn't be related to the 75% thing then, since only the % was changed.

So this next round of Starburst, we might try something a little bit different.  So this thread is to guage and see if there's enough interest in making it happen.

We'll try to have some leaders sign up, and then distribute them in a fam of their own.  Then there will be no drafting and the rest of the players can split up amongst the pre-allocated leaders randomly when joining the galaxy.

If it works out, the leaders amongst themselves, work out the stats of the galaxy, being mostly the size of the map.  The number of players per fam, will largely depend on how many competent leaders sign up (there needs to be a minimum of 8 leaders interested though).

E.g. we have 75 non-1-planet players in Starburst atm.  So if we get 10 leaders signing up, its likely we'll have the fam size as 8.

Anyway, this is largely an interest thread, to see how things unfold.  Potential leaders can register their interest here, and a Mod/FMod can edit this post to add to the list.  The leader will be ultimately up to player consensus and mod discretion.

4 days to go, til the end of the current Starburst round!

Edit:
To summarise, we are looking for leaders to volunteer, and the rest of the players will random into a family with one of these leaders.

Anyway, how's the 75% thing working out so far?

(246 replies, posted in Universal News)

I'm not against NAPs.  They're definitely needed in the game.  This game has always needed you to have good diplomacy.

But PNAPs are unneeded.  Often people PNAP for no proper reason, limiting their targets later on, etc.  Before you could even fight the same people multiple times in a round.

I think a scaling thing would be best overall, like something different as round progresses.  But for now, I'm curious to see how this 75% thing works out.

There's always the risk that someone 74% of your networth sets up around you and takes you down.  But these days, it seems all of you are craving for smaller guys to take down bigger guys.

Pity, we're always trying to get Feedback and see how changes impact the game.  We've said time and time again, we're not against tweaking/changing something and then making further changes as needed.

You guys never seem to be free with your feedback though.

No one is in right mind to quit top fams to join last place fams.

Why?  If you play for ranks, then ofcourse.  But if you've achieved the top, and then just call for the galaxy to end, then that's a bit silly.  This is just a fun idea to keep it varied.  Ofcourse it's a challenege.

Vegnarok wrote:

However, there is flaw in this proposal. no exploration left, not possible to grow at this stage.

I think you new-age players (:p), are spoiled.  Back when NAP wars were done properly and losing one didn't mean you were out of the game, we'd actually work for shares.  Explo phase was much less than 1/3 of the round.  We actually planned on who to war and how to do it best to set up on someone else goign forward.

Guess that's all lost these days too.

Problem

You guys are getting bored, and think there's no competition.

Proposal

Since we're all friends, and don't really care about ranks and what not, this is my proposal to mix things up a bit!
1) Devilz and ICDeath have 24 hours to delete from their fams (any preps has to be done in 24hours).
2) All PNaps for 266 and 268 get turned into 48hour ones (assuming acceptance by opposing fams).
3) Devilz and ICDeath draft into one of these fams each, to see how well they can do and which fam they can bring up:
12    The Hobbitses (10265) [15,53]     243     2755013     9750
13    The Frakking Cylons (10273) [33,69]     279     2084906     26985

Disclaimer 2:  There is no admission from me here that these two players are good players tongue  It's just that they're active, and seem to be controlling their fams to an extent.  That, and I'm sure they may be up for trying something new for a change.

Go go!
