well, if a singular person has the support of the masses then its both facist and socialist, isn't it? If the workers in the factory want chavez to make the decisions regarding it for example.

Fascism has little or even nothing in common with socialism.. How do you see them as a unified political system?

don't both typically involve government ownership of the means of production?

i know wiki isn't a reliable source, but as an example of a view of what fascism is, from wiki "Fascists believe that a nation is an organic  community that requires strong leadership, singular collective identity...  They claim that culture is created by the collective national society and its state, that cultural ideas are what give individuals identity, and thus they reject individualism."

now socialism "Socialism is an economic and political theory advocating public or common ownership and cooperative management of the means of production and allocation of resources"

both seem to reject individualism and try to focus on the whole. both seem to be in favor of the government controlling most of our lives...

really? you've made contact with gays and have even befriended some? and they even allowed you into their habitat? dude, dpenguins, we aren't talking about an isolated tribe that time has passed by, fags are not some rare thing most of us never see. I have friends that are gay, i have co-workers that are gay, and theres a gay bar downtown that is famous for its food that i've been to many times. heck, in college, the Frat i was in had open showers and i've showered when there was an openly gay guy showering too.

i think both sides are very defensive. gays feel they are being considered sub human and anti gay marriage people are being considered intolerant and because both sides feel threatened neither side is willing to be reasonable and are looking for excuses not to like possible fixes.

I get married. It comes up in conversation with others that I'm married. They ask me if my spouse is a man or a woman. I'm insulted and so is she. <

And there we have the crux of the matter: people still think being gay is "wrong".

i don't think you have to think being gay is wrong to be insulted by that. If you ask a woman if she is pregnant, does the woman have to think pregnancy is wrong to be insulted?

Right now i have a hard time supporting or opposing gay marriages because the arguments i hear from both sides are complete crap.

1st. People argue religiously its not allowed and by allowing it the state is somehow going against their religion. but if you think its so religious, then you should be against the government involvement with it all together.

2nd.  Gays just want to be able to visit their partner in the hospital. Well, then you shouldn't be opposing "civil unions". your argument against civil unions being discriminatory because its different is BS. We have different names for different things, a same sex marriage is different from a normal marriage, and calling it different does not discriminate; and finally, if you really cared about visiting your partner in the hospital, then you wouldn't be opposing civil unions, you are keeping yourself from visiting your partner in the hospital by opposing civil unions.

so someone please try to sway me over to one side or the other.

@LP  it has changed, because i learned when you call yourself an anarchist, people argue about semantics. so i don't call myself anarchist. I am for more personal and economic freedoms then what is the current state in the US. And i started posting in this forum when i think i was 13 and im 23 now, so yeah; my views might of changed a little; i didn't have everything figured out when i was 13. Although i have never taken highschool or college classes on the subjects i debate here, so i am not just regurgitating crap I've heard, but the thoughts are my own.  Sometimes i'll post a line of thinking i had and see what criticism i get from the people on the forums.

conversations like this thread bore me because its all about semantics. people are labeling different terms and then these labels don't even last outside of the thread, in the next thread, they're going to be using new labels and trying to make new points with their chosen labels.  the focus in this forum is too much about labeling and not enough about specific issues. Am i part of this problem? sure. sometimes its fun to do what they're doing to the extreme to see if anyone catches how ridiculous everyone is being.

there are too many games where the developers actually give a damn for IC to thrive with one that doesn't... there is no saving ic. even if this was implemented, the occasional change to ic won't save it.

True, but in these countries justice is handled by the courts.  So it is not the mob, but a small group chosen to act on the mob's behalf that makes the decisions.  If the mob handled justice the mere accusation of serious crime would have someone beaten to death by an angry horde.  Which admittedly would speed up the process but I think we all see the problem with it.

every government is a product of anarchy. everything that is a product of democracy is a product of anarchy. if a democracy can produce a small citizen population that represents the mobs and makes decisions, then anarchy can too. the Difference is that Anarchy is not limited to what democractic governments are.

When i think that all the fighters are probably going to be going up against inferior fighters and all the fighters are probably going to have high ratio's; i'd imagine that the eurofighter's high maneuvability wouldn't come in as handy as the stealth of the f22 and f35. but i am fairly sure there hasn't even been a f-15 ever shot down by another fighter, so can you really call another fighter better when the f-15 has basically done its job flawlessly? it is not the eurofighters job to wage war against the US and its not the F22's job to wage war against europe, so we are not comparing fighters in 1v1 against each other.

all languages are used outside their native area... defining european languages is unnecessary, its obvious the meaning. English, Spanish, French, Estonian, Russian, Finish, Italian, ect are european languages.  Mandarin, Japanese, Korean, Zulu, Navajo, ect are non-european languages.  I am not going to bother trying to create a definition for european language that is bullshit proof; everyone should know what is meant.

i was not trying to make a point with the original post, i was genuinely interested in how common it is for europeans to know non-european languages.

this being the politics forum, a simple poll wouldn't have been appropriate, so i had to use a european/american rivalry in the thread to make it political and to motivate people to post in it.

the point was to see how many europeans spoke non-european languages.

"that is simplification of the truth avo."

yeah, but i really just copied the OP's simplification of the truth.

its fun messing with mods: only other forum i've had trouble with their moderation other then IC

Sappho: Dear Atavax,

You have received a warning at The Secret World Official Forums.

Reason:
-------
Continued open disussion of moderation

Discussion on moderation in open forums is not acceptable. This has been pointed out many times in many threads.
-------

Atavax: what moderation have i discussed? i havent discussed any moderation at all... in the What is ek1ESnhjREo1UWpNa1lqTg ?; you have not done any moderation, so my posts have not been about moderation but about the content of the thread.

Sappho: I made a request in the thread. That is moderation. You questioned that request, I responded. You questioned that response. I suggested that if you had a problem, to report it. You responded in the thread again, despite my request otherwise.

You seem to take great offence to any decision/request, made by me, that goes against your opinion/world-view. That's fine, just don't air it in the forums; keep it yourself.

Atavax: everyone constantly makes requests on the forum, and people always comment on theirs, so its safe to assume talking about someone's request isnt banned.

if whatever comments you made is considered moderation because you are a moderator, then there are threads and posts constantly breaking that you have appeared to have supported, by making silly posts in those threads...

from my months on the boards i have only seen encouragment from you in people responding to your posts as long as they werent responses to your actions as moderator... i followed this format...

Sappho: The infraction is solely in response to my last request for you to report a post if you had a problem with it. Your decision was to ignore that request, and openly reply in the thread.

Atavax: i didnt have a problem with any posts... providing a differing opinion is not having a problem with it. Adults can have differing opinions and be ok with it. i would think a moderator of all people would know that.

Sappho: One more comment like that will find you on an extended posting holiday.... very extended.

This entire conversation is at an end and will be posted on internal forums, and to FC, for peer review.

Atavax: could you please post a link to a single place in the forums that points out that discussing moderation in open forums is not acceptable?

Sappho: Forum rules:
Moderation is not ever a topic for open forum. If you have any questions or feedback on moderation it should be addressed to the community manager or the specific moderator via private message.
Anything else you need help finding?

Atavax:
how is me clarifying that i was not trying to moderate moderators creating the topic of moderation? the topic was me and my actions, not the actions of a moderator... if anyone started a topic about moderation in the open forums, i think it would be the one accusing someone of assuming the role of moderator of moderators? i did not have any questions or feedback on moderation to be addressed by a community manager or specific moderator, i was defending myself from a public attack on the forums...

further more, the topic of moderation and any discussion of moderation are completely different. underneath the part you quoted, theres an elaboration, just like every other part of the forum rules, which clearly leaves out anything that i could of been interpretted as doing
" * Do not post threads questioning moderation. Such threads will be removed
* If a topic is closed or removed do not, under any circumstances, re-post the same topic or material. If you have any questions as to wh

Sappho: Stepping back to the original event that sparked this whole debate, you had no involvement (other than probably reading) in the thread until after I had posted my request.

Your questioning of my moderation request, in public, in the thread is what leads us here now. That you see it as an attack is nothing more than grandstanding.

You obviously have an issue with moderators making simple requests on these forums, that you don't necessarily agree with, and that's fine. Just don't bring it up in public. PM someone or report it for consideration. The other alternative, should you find those options too much of a chore, is to find somewhere else that is more in line with the way you like to operate.

Atavax:me calling it an attack is stating the obvious. you did not say i was trying to be moderator of the moderators as a compliment, it was an attempt to discredit me, saying it was overstepping my bounds. please don't try to deny it, you're only insulting my intelligence by doing so.

I have no problem with moderators making simple requests. i even have no problem with moderators banning any comments about moderation. the only issue i have is being punished while following the rules and the practice of the rules to the letter.

there countless examples of others talking about your moderation with apparently no ill effect, it appears you took my opinion personally and that i am a victim of the unprofessional nature in which you carry out your moderation of the boards. there are no rules that you can compliment moderation but cant insult it, but when was the last time someone got a warning for complimenting your moderation? complimenting moderation is just as against the rules as insulting it is.

i didnt even insult you, i stated a system of values contrary to your own, and thats how this situation happened; you intolerance to another person's system of values contrary to your own. i didnt voice disapproval, i only stated a different point of view and i got accused of trying to moderate moderators and an official warning for denying that i was trying to moderate you by pointing out another view.

you also never responded to the elaboration of the moderation on the rules. the forum rules had a summary of each rule and then they explained it in detail underneath for every rule.
for example:
Signature

Your signature is a good place for including some info about yourself, a quote you like, or links to your characters. The signature should not take the attention away from the posts though, and thus we have these rules for signatures:

* Limit it to a maximum of 10 lines, including any empty lines.
* Use normal text size or smaller. I.e. no [size=x] tags with x > 2.
* Don't overdo the colors and smileys.
* Avoid the

tag, as it takes up a lot of space.

and for the moderation rule the explanation in detail was * Do not post threads questioning moderation. Such threads will be removed
* If a topic is closed or removed do not, under any circumstances, re-post the same topic or material. If you have any questions as to why a thread was closed or removed please contact the moderator via private message.

Atavax: ok, you warned me again, now can you please address the points?

Sappho: Any further issues you have, please feel free to PM Tarib.

I have finished trying to explain things to you, maybe Tarib will be able to find some time to assist you further.

Atavax: you havent made a single attempt, you havent answered a single question i've asked since the beginning....

Sappho: Let me make my statement clearer. Do NOT continue to PM me any further on this subject. Direct all further PM's to Tarib if you wish. If you continue to PM me on this subject, I will issue a further infraction which includes an account lockout.

My discussion with Tarib will have to wait until another time tongue

you are not making a good argument based on facts, you're saying that atheism cannot be a religion because there are a separate religions such as Buddhism that has atheist beliefs

chickenwingz, before i regard you as a complete moron for the rest of your stay in this forum, let me make sure i got your argument clear. You are claiming that atheism cannot be a religion because there is a separate religion (Buddhism)  that has atheist beliefs?

you know how many different sects of Christianity have virtually identical beliefs but one believes one thing the other doesn't and yet they are regarded as separate religions?

European nations by themselves don't have the populations or economic incentives to produce as many and varied media productions as English-speaking America does. An English-only speaking American can enjoy many more films than someone who only speaks Suomi, for instance. The same applies for all print/audio/televised media. English-speakers have more available to them in English than is available in most other languages by themselves, incentivizing English speakers less to learn additional languages than those who speak languages common to less people.

I do see additional value in learning more than one language, in addition to the media garbage (and absolutely beautiful art) one can consume. For instance, learning another language even moderately well helps one understand his/her own language considerably better and is supposedly great for intellectual capacity and growth.

i will say that 90% of my desire to learn another language (which hasn't been enough to get me to learn another language yet) is the arts. I much rather read a famous poet or author's works without translations.

I don't mind a bit of pirating, but let's not kid anyone... it is freeriding

what does legality have to do with whether or not its stealing? i agree, its illegal. but everything that is illegal is not stealing. Pirating isn't stealing. someone is giving me a copy of the movie, and them giving me a copy of the movie is not having any negative effect on the copyright owner, he is victimless, he would see no more money if i didn't see a pirated copy of a movie for free; he actually benefits because i am more likely to buy the movie after seeing the pirated version, if i actually liked it.

pirating isn't stealing, its pirating.... theres a huge difference... if i download a movie am i taking someone else's movie? nope. is me downloading the movie somehow taking money out of someone's pocket? no. if i don't watch the movie at all or if i only watch a pirated version, theres no difference to anyone but me.

pick the job where the secretary is hotter...

ok, lets say there was a free market by your definition. your first example is drugs. With all illegal drugs, other then possibly Pot, there is a vast majority of the population that doesn't approve of its use. Whats going to happen when someone tries to sell those drugs to children? they're probably going to die; the law isn't holding anyone back. Same can be said with theft, or murder, communities wouldn't tolerate it and because they're free to do whatever they want, the theives and murderers probably wouldn't last long.
