We cancelled our nap on 59, mister MedicineMan.
They were plunged into the war by us.
But at least we gave them some time to recover from their previous (not as destructive) war.

I'm mad I don't get to use my 51 shares now, but I was gone for the weekend so if the war would've pushed through it wouldn't have been much better tongue.

US heathcare as an average is mediocre-bad for the standards of a Western country, but if you pay for it you can get the best of the best.
It's just that the average person that needs to visit the hospital can't afford those more expensive clinics, and those even lower in the economic picking order get stuck in the clinics that we in Europe consider pitiful.

V. Kemp claims the best healthcare is even accesible to middle-income Americans if they prioritize it. I do not think he is aware of the costs of the treatment of a simple bone fracture when there is no coverage by insurancies, let alone therapies for more chronic disorders: prioritizing those would mean that people will not be able to afford a lot of other things they'd like and may even have to change their lifestyle, effectively downgrading them from middle-class to lower-class. You'll have middle-income Americans with sub-middle living standards.

V. Kemp goes on to claim that government regulation is what is making healthcare so much more expensive. I believe a larger part of these costs come from the sue-anything-and-everything mentality: because of this many doctors, not only those working in public facilities but also those in private practices, will up the prices of treatments just to create a pool of money that they can fall back on when/if they get hit with a large lawsuit.

Another large stress on the medical sector that drives up the prices is the amount of healthcare for morbidly obese and diseases/syndromes associated with adiposity, salt-rich diets (such as hypertension). The average American lifestyle is just not that healthy, and that causes an increase in the medical bills as compared to other, "healthier" nations.
Then there is the point of the private practices that over above-average care for above-average prices. These create a flow of good doctors away from more public and cheaper facilities to these private practices, effectively creating a system where there are 2 extremes in the healthcare: good & expensive vs cheap & mediocre/bad.

For average-poor people to be able to get decent care, there needs to be a change in the system: either improvement of the "bad" clinics or making the "good" clinics more accessible for the average-poor people (a change in lifestyle for a majority of Americans being unlikely).
An example of the latter is a medcare program such as Obamacare.
I believe it is too soon as of now to see whether Obamacare is effective (and exactly how effective and whether it justifies the costs). I think what we're seeing now is a big initial increase in the costs because the system needed to be overhauled for this new system to be implemented, and I expect these costs to drop in the coming years. It's an investment that may pay off in the future. Leave it alone and check again in 5 years.

A lot of schools in the US already have a daily or at least weekly pledge of allegiance...

I agree partially with Wouter, it's very wrong to forcefeed your kids THAT much nationalism (as it is to forcefeed them religion in my opinion, even if it is impossible to regulate), I'd say it's borderline facist. Too much nationalism can twist a person's view of the world, and pledges to one's country should never be forced in every-day situations as at that point the whole pledging part has no additional value.
Of course a bit of nationalism is fine: if someone at the age of 18 can't even recite the country's national anthem then clearly something's wrong (or he's adhering to his principals by refusing to learn it, which might be respectable). A bit of nationalism breeds a feeling of being part of a collective, a community if you will. Also, if you're the only one in the room not singing out loud before a football match of Oranje, you'll just look plain silly tongue.

I agree Flashy, I don't like voiding/breaking, I'm just saying that cancellations like these give people who are more prone to void/break the incentive to do so, and as such are counterproductive when you are fearing a nap break as the people would not have felt urged to void/break otherwise..

Is stopping lifesupport, when someone is not leading anything resembling a life anylonger, murder?
Or is it, as your quote states, "shortening" once life.

But yes, we practice euthanasia in our clinics. We did it 20 years ago, we still do it today (although with a shitton of regulations). You'll have to bet those physicians who shortened the lifes of patients without their explicit request had to get through a bureaucratic maze before they could even release a patient from his suffering. Do note that an explicit request in this case means to have a documented request, recorded in presence of a certain official (i.e. solicitor). If the patient just says "I'd like to end my life", that does not constitute as an explicite request.

Still, the numbers Mr Santorum used were either outdated or falsified, as you yourself found a much smaller number.
Other points he notes as facts, such as elderly wearing bracelets saying "do not euthanize me" (there are however bracelets that say "do not reanimate me"), elderly evading dutch hospitals, those are all blatant lies.

I meant that if you didn't want us to be dishonorable, you should've cancelled at a more respectful time.
I would have gladly fought you guys on a more even footing.
But cancelling on us after we just get out of our war with 59 is just silly, and you can't expect us to take that well.

Although, as I've said, I'm against voiding the nap.

So... in order to not make us break nap on you, you force us in a position where one of the few possibilities for a good lookout is a nap void/break? (although I'm against it, personally)

I know you have played honorably and that people have had good rounds playing with you, but in the past you have played dishonorably as well.

I'm asking you to just stay out of this thread, if you please would, since it does not concern you.

Render, you have broken/voided naps in the past and shown some of the most dishonorable behaviour (not just nap-wise, also regarding farming and attacking lowly fams).
Now you have even stepped as low as the retake-delete move in SD.

Do not act like you're a saint, and stop posting here.

It is no longer the case. I have had to study the legislature of medicine, I have seen real life examples of where a voluntary euthanasia is being blocked by a family member being against it, either because they're overreacting emotionally and do not wish to let go of their memories (even when they do not have the courage to confront them, scared to see what has happened to their beloved one (and justly so), or because they're trying to mooch of their parent's pension a bit longer. Real life examples include people who have said in the past that if they'd be in that exact situation that they are in now, they'd like to be euthanised; however, sadly, in most of these situations the person in question has either had a complete personality change, if any personality is left at all, or is proclaimed irresponsible. Forced euthanasia would be a good thing in those situations, or at least a change in the legislature.

Rick Santorum is talking about our present day situation I presume, as there is no relevance to talk about a situation of 20 years ago in the present tense when things have changed in the meantime. (unless you're trying to falsify information)
Although if what pengy says is true, I'd like to see the original interview (if anyone has a link).

Of course, you could say I'm biassed as this is concerning my future working environment, but I like to think I have quite the unbiassed view regarding medicine (including my not-so-in-agreement-with-psychiatry views that some of you may be aware of tongue).

817

(38 replies, posted in Politics)

And how long ago is 1990? I'll let you know that nowadays the legislature around euthanasia is so complicated that even people who want to have it done, cannot have it done. People living like animals or vegetables with no positive outlook at all because someon in their family does not want to let go.

Last night:
Rd has been hit heavily, and has now suffered quite a bit of losses. Still he is ahead (nw-wise) of all of Skyrim's attackers, be it slightly.
Paarthunax has begun losing more now that he is more involved again, and Arby3 (and others) rejumped to make his losses seem a tad less bad tongue.

From this point on I expect a few more rejumps, so these stats will be a lot less accurate to determine fleet losses.

RD (Pokemon Stadium) has been overtaken in the least-fleet-lost department by his teammate Lee (Zelda), who frankly just isn't losing anything due to his huge fleet tongue. And with the three skyrim attackers concentrating on RD, it's not surprising.
On the other hand we see the Skyrim fam suffering heavy losses, aside from Spam (Paarthunax) who has managed to minimize his, even when his portals are being popped left and right: most of his losses came from the first tick when his shares were being cleared. Arby3 (Sahloknir) has suffered the worst losses so far, having crashed droids onto RD after some miscommunication... aka "pulling a Flashy".
