sorry thirdrock, but sheep isn't that fat ;/
personally, I feel that violent video games aren't the problem. I feel that they play a minor part in making someone into a violent person, but usually the social atmosphere of the child is the problem that causes the issue. for instance, do the parents get along or fight a lot? Does the father beat the child? is the child a loner or "one of the guys"? etc. A child that is an outcast with parents who either fight alot or don't really dote on them tend to begin a trend of impatience that grows into violence. Add in TV today that says violence is my best friend, and that violence is cool, and you're set to go with a murdering rampager (or if the person is a sociopath, TV is just training for him, telling him what will work and what won't).
alright, I will agree with you Mr. Fancsali if that is your real name! o.O
but guns are a big issue because of the possibilities required for needing one. In most cases, a gun is required when your life is threatened. if you have a gun with a gun pointed at you already, you reach for it and the second the person sees it you're shot (unless you're faster). Teenage suicides, younger children shooting themselves etc. basically, the only time you need a gun is when your life is threatened whether in war or at home and I'm pretty sure that a very large majority of people (65% I think it was? I don't remember) go on with their lives without having any such situation.
Guns are also a problem with youth and violence
but that's in another thread.
Brandon is a very smart, very productive player with a side of sarcasm and a hint of mockery ![]()

That's right. The victims of robberies, muggings, rapes, and home invasions are in fact CRIMINALS whose actions are suspect! BLAME THE VICTIMS! Brilliant strategy. Your reason is irrefutable!
I told you sometimes I'm stupid ![]()
plus, it is concerning how you end up in a situation that you need a gun to protect yourself. 1. lack of home security 2. stupidity (don't walk in dark alleyways late at night, it's not smart, not even in a group) and 3. most women should know by now that you should have at least 3 people in your group when walking around at night. Hell, we even do that with church groups, 1 adult (or more) and at least 2 kids so should something happen, there is a group and an adult able to handle what is occurring.
let me rephrase the sentence then,
If the parents fail to BE parents, then someone should step in to help. I'm sure someone should be able to see something is wrong. An older sibling, an aunt, a school teacher maybe or a friend. Should the parent's fail, then it is up to society to step in and handle the problem, however, society also chooses to do nothing because of the way society is today (at least in the US). It's all about me me me, and if I want this, then I'll get it.
Society has a direct effect on youth (not just the parents) because of TV and what they promote. For instance, when I was in 6th grade (about 10) I remember I used to see at least 4 Victoria's Secret commercials a week. I'm pretty sure at that age, although I'm just figuring out about sex (or getting interested in girls) I'm not supposed to be exposed to such things. They don't promote very good ideas to the mind or the body. Plus it is bad eye candy.
Bring it around again, I will say I agree with both of you the child is not COMPLETELY at fault (remember, the child is usually the one who wants to buy the game so they have a choice in this too). However, the parents are 85% of the blame because of their failure to do anything about it or decide what is best for their child.

And what...a knife can magically stab people?
A gun can only protect you if it's in your hand?
I'm too lazy to read whoever said that but whoever said that must be either the stupidest, most idiotic person I've ever met or they are ridiculously naive.
am I to assume that I have a gun in my hand, I'm robbing sKoE for all the money he's got (which is probably a dime and 2 pennies
) I'm protecting myself? X(
Edit: Ok then, DPS said that, ARE YOU A FREAKING IDIOT!? X(
i am seriously on the verge of exploding because of the level of stupidity there! I'm stupid, I'm an idiot and I'm naive, I'll be the first to admit that (I'm also gullible) but even I know that if you have a gun in your hand odds are you aren't protecting yourself. Even if you are protecting yourself, it's not exactly something that you should be concerned about. What's more concerning is how did you end up in a situation that involves you holding a gun to protect yourself?
I discussed with a friend recently that in the US, you can be sued (and have to pay money) for maiming someone with a gun when they come in to rob you. So shoot to kill people!!! So in that case, I was protecting myself won't hold up because they had a knife and you had a gun, and you didn't have to shoot them but you did. And you could look at 5k+ in reparations.
I'm a firm believer in delineating a separation between reality and fantasy. I know the right and wrong between the two. I'm no idiot (on certain days) and I have an extremely powerful imagination (I can imagine the weirdest stuff with the simplest idea).
The main problem is the parent's. Their refusal to stop the child from games is problematic and a big issue. if i want to play Soldier of Fortune 2 or Gears of War (simple any game that you can kill someone, then shoot the body into different parts) then I should be able to tell "Ok, this is not for a 7 year old. Maybe a 13 year old, but no younger". Parents get games for their kids that their kids tell them to get because the parents are 1. lazy, 2. don't care and 3. choose to ignore the age of the child in conjunction with the material presented. It's a simple case of poor judgment on the parent's fault leading to a problem later on in life.
As they say, if the child turns out bad, its the parents fault for not teaching them right ![]()
every problem starts at home ![]()
and there was another
If the parents are unable to "BE" parents, then the child should own up, grow some balls, etc, and say to themselves, I shouldn't get this game because it has the possibility of ruining my future and my psyche" as video games are addictive and ruin your school work.
many parents today are not able to be parents and so they shouldn't be allowed to buy games unless they can prove to the store clerk that they will be responsible enough to not buy a game for their child unless it is E. If the child is present that is, if the child is not there, then w/e, lie to me bitches X(
A parent will more likely be able to realize that said game isn't a productive game for their child. I spend my own money on my own games and my parents are not thrilled about that. But they can't do anything because I am spending my own money not theirs.
parents buy games for their kids because they don't care what they get for their kids. My brother used to buy teen and matured rated games and I used to play them (I'm not violent person though).
most parents are smart in that they keep an eye out for what they want their children to have. i'm not going to buy my 7 year old son F.E.A.R. unless he's a child prodigy in physics or chemistry. likewise I'm not going to buy my 15 year old son Animal Crossing (or w/e that game was called). it also depends on what the child likes, if they can't handle violence or blood, then odds are they won't get those games. I can't handle violence or blood, but I play CoD4, halo, etc. So I'm the odd ball out ![]()

I don't believe what the pope says. He's old (although i respect the elderly, he's in a position of power) and he's in a position of power. 90% of that means he will lie to us. Because he will lie to subjugate the masses, I will not take that into account.
if you think about it, if i were the president and I said, "Movies are stupid" and the person in charge in China says 'movies are awesome" you could use those quotes in a paper about a movie because it's an important person saying something about a certain topic that you can use to your advantage.
i want to see your evidence about this "Pope" fellow who claims that Evolution and the Bible go hand in hand (hard evidence) X(

Daniel is a smart man who thinks logically and has the ideas that would rival Aristotle (in IC) and the activity of a raging bull on skates (rolling around like it doesnt' know what grass is)
and that is why I love my Daniel ![]()
I think the question we should all be asking is "why is this important?" or "When will this exact idea occur and be something I should know for the near future?"

which would you pick if you were given the choice between a plastic door for your house or a 5 ton steel door for your house (with no hydraulics to move it)?
isn't sin technically one whole thing not 7 different things? Why can't we just call it sin and be done with it? Why "Oh this is the sin of of Sloth" "This is the Sin of Pride" I, however, do not have the sin of Pride, I have the sin or Wrath. "You got the sin of pride because you said that" You have all the sins to a greater or lesser degree so blah ![]()
I thought it was decent. Halo wars is not great, like C&C 3, but it's decent and I like the Flood element. If you really look at the details of the Halo Universe instead of focusing too much on the whatever you people seem to find wrong (and if a company made the most perfect game in the world, you people would suggest that the characters need better voices) then I would say you guys miss out on the cool parts of this game. Like the ability to see Spartans other than the Master Chief in action, including a lovely video in which they kick the ass of a number of elites. You get to see a different kind of ship. You get to toy around with warthogs and tanks in a big battle. In skirmish the Arbiter can be controlled by you (and you can kick the ass of the enemy so I found out) etc. Stop all your bitching and go find something else to bitch about. If you guys really think that Halo Wars is bad, then don't play anymore games in the rest of your life because you will just have disappointment after disappointment. If you really consider how many "good" games come out at least. (I would say 3-4 good games in the last year or two of the hundreds of games
)
>>2, Jesus' doctrine of "eternal punishment" in the "eternal fire" of Hell<<
What is a "successful" doctrine? One year less a day?
did Jesus even have "doctrines"?
>>6, Jesus' failure to perform miracles the accounts of which cannot be so easily explained as faith-healing, misinterpretation, exaggeration, and embellishment <<
You would explain away miracles as faith-healing? "Oh that's no miracle, that's just psychosomatic spotaneous regeneration!"
I like your response, but you misspelled spontaneous and I'm going to have to dock you 3 points, sir ![]()
