For those of you aren't aware, if you log into your account, go to your hq, and then change the link from

http://imperialconflict.com/main.php

to

http://imperialconflict.com/frames.php

the old side bar will come back into play.

I feel like everyone should know this.  Will be a nice part of the transition, giving us the nice new look combined with the old functionality.

Carry on!

Just wanted to say thanks to the mods, admins, developers, and anyone else that may have given suggestions/helped with the incoming changes.  I have no idea what they are yet, but I know it takes a lot of time and effort to put things like this together.

Seeing all the work being done in the past 6 months or so has been extremely refreshing, so thanks to the folks who make it happen!

Tom was furious, he had always known that nincompoop Garfield didn't have the natural instincts needed to be a real cat.  One simple job, just one, and the fat lazy slob had managed to get lodged in some scooter.  At least now he knew he could rely on his whole force, himself and Cheshire having the ruthless streak needed to show the dogs who the dominate species was.  Tonight would be much different than last night.

Chesh adored in leading dogs on long chases, and it amused him to no end how they never seemed to figure out where he had gone after he disappeared.  Arby3 was close behind him, barking and slathering and in general just being a buffoon..the poor dog thought he had a chance to get ol' Chesh.  Being satisfied that the chase had gone on long enough, and feeling that poor Arby's sources of amusement were all dried up, Chesh knew it was time to put an end to this.  He ran toward the edge of the cliff face, and appearing to dive over disappeared.

Chesh giggled from the tree as he watched Arby3 take the plunge that everyone knew would be his doom.

Arby3's days of chasing pussy (cats?) were over.

CatDog had spent the day playing poker with itself.  Cat always felt like he was cheating, as poor dog didn't really understand the game...but could you really cheat yourself?  Night time had arrived, and DogCat had Nolio in his sights.  They knew this one would be easy as Nolio had a nasty habit of running away whenever a seemingly attractive animal approached him.  To this end it had devised a plot to dress dog up like a pretty lady and trick Nolio into falling into the trap that cat had forced dog to dig before their card game.

As Nolio rounded the corner, Dog stepped out and gave the most sensual bark he could...Nolio of course turn and ran, right into the pit.  Cat was ecstatic, normally he had to hold on to his prey with at least one paw while he tortured it to death.  There were so many possibilities for a two pawed attack!

Nolio is no more, and it is best not to describe the gruesome evil Cat death he experienced.

I feel the same way Orbit.  Currently I imagine that even if new players are joining, they're taking a look at Supernova and getting a very wrong impression of the game.  I know personally 4 players (my brother and 3 of his friends) were going to join, and I believe they did join...but as soon as they realized there was no potential of playing together they decided against it.

Having a better developed tutorial is essential if we are going to get new players to stay.  It needs to be something relatively fast paced, without overwhelming people with too much information right away.  This isn't a game that is meant to be played for hours at a time (at least at a beginner level)... no reason people can't take a few days to learn the ropes, but I think sticking new players in a full length round of SS play is the wrong solution.

Hrm... I think the idea of having a 3 account multi fam just takes us even farther away from the team-work that this game should require.  An SS galaxy is good, it gives players who are interested in going solo a place to do it, but I think that's as far down that road as we need to go.  I also imagine allowing people to have multiple accounts in one galaxy would just make it more difficult to detect multis in other galaxies.

Not saying that the idea wouldn't be fun, but I feel strongly that if we are going to have a galaxy designed to use team work...you should have to use teamwork tongue

It was night, and night was the time of the cat.  Tom lounged in the remnants of the day's warm spot by the window playing with the now dead Jerry which he had sent to a taxidermist to be stuffed.  One death for this foul little nuisance was not enough, also it was fun to play with.  Accidentally knocking dead Jerry out of reach, Tom lost interest and sat up to look at who had joined his cause against the dogs.  Chesh with his fading would indeed be useful, but the fat orange one still needed to prove himself.  Tom swatted Garfield as hard as he could, and Garfield got up and dejectedly walked out to do the night's work.

At least Tom had given him an easy kill, Garfield knew he would find his target sitting out front of the local pizza parlor.  The stupid dog hadn't moved from that spot in years!  All Garfield had to do was sneak up behind Seymour and take care of business...and hopefully the pizza parlor served lasagna too, wouldn't that just make for a fine evening?

Garfield walked up to Seymour preparing to end him in a most gruesome cruel fashion (because cats like to drag deaths out as much as possible, even fat lazy ones) when at the last moment Seymour turned around.  Looking into those sad puppy eyes, Garfield suddenly found himself flashing back to the story of the loyal Seymour.  Not just a stupid dog that wasn't move, but an incredibly loyal pet that had been waiting for his best friend for 6 years (this of course being a large difference between cats and dogs, if a cat's owner dies they just get pissed the litter box isn't being cleaned).  Overwhelmed by the new found knowledge Garfield hesistated, taking a step back...right into the path of the pizza delivery scooter.

Garfield, AKA Thor, is no more.

CatDog, or DogCat as some prefer, had lived a life or tragedy.  Neither a cat, nor a dog, but an awesome combination of the too.  Cat had long ago figured out the buttless problem, cats generally being the cleverer of the species, and Dog had never once wondered why his daily vomiting seemed to coincide with Cat's eating schedule.  Tonight, it was time to start making those cruel animals pay for all their years of discrimination.

Rchie was laying atop his doghouse contemplating life, having sent Woodhouse on a mission to protect someone else this evening.  He was brought out of his daydream by the scent of another dog, and thinking nothing of it he continued staring up at the stars.  He could now hear the panting coming closer...and thought he could smell cat too.  Snoopy didn't even have a chance to look up before DogCat had tackled him off his house, neatly hamstringing him in the process.  CatDog spent the rest of the evening dragging Snoopy around, and finally left him to die on their own doorstep.

Rchie, Snoopy, is no more

Note:

Seymour's ability is one-time use.  It was brought to my attention that this could be an invincible character.  That is not the case, the first kill attempt on Seymour will leave Seymour alive and the would-be-killer dead.  After that Seymour is just a normal dog...with the saddest story ever aired on television.

I believe what Render said was correct (ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh)

at least I think...I could only read about half of the gobbledygook he typed.  Also, I don't think they can change the planet image to ressie bonus correlation.  I've always assumed it is done that way in early developing.

I.E.
Planets are allotted images at a certain %
Each image correlates with a specific bonus
Image A = Iron, Image B = End...etc.

I'm all about bringing in new players, something that we see very little of in recent years.  A tutorial galaxy, in my eyes, is a must...but I feel like it hasn't been done properly around here yet.

Ok, so Virgo sucked.  Turned into more of a graveyard for new accounts/ a place for veteran players to see how much they could infra whore with 9 planets than a tutorial galaxy.  Having some kind of a tutorial with Supernova is a great idea, but I also feel like having players learn in an SS setting is detrimental to them fitting in a family after the round is over.  Let's face it, in family galaxies people frequently kill off SS players even if the players are vets.  A new player with an SS mindset has almost no chance of surviving the trolls in this game.

My proposal, and this is rough...cuz I need to go to bed soon

-Small galaxy...
-3 families.
-2 families with 1-2 veteran players who are willing to help (and capable of helping) new players develop their skills.
-1 family containing a "dead" player that a veteran or moderator consistently keeps loaded with planets, we're talking 200 in a galaxy where 10ish planets is the max for other players.
-List of goals that a player must complete before "graduating"
____-These goals should be able to be accomplished in less than 7 days
1. Aid a player
2. Successfully cast an unaggressive op
3. Successfully cast an aggressive op
4. Successfully build 1 of each building
5. Successfully change your science ratios
6. Successfully buy something on the market
7. Successfully sell something on the market
8. Successfully explore a planet
9. Successfully attack and capture a planet
10. Post in the forums
11. Visit the family chat
12. Build 1 of each unit
13. Once they reach 10 planets, and the galaxy moderators feel they are ready, they gradumicate

The dead player could be a new account accessible by the moderators and galaxy moderators in order to keep it up to date.  Building various amounts of lasers, keeping a good market going, etc.

I would also suggest opening a STRICTLY moderated forum and channel in IRC specifically for new players to come in ask questions.  We're talking a single troll by a veteran player and they get a forum ban (if possible just from this forum).

In my eyes by far the most important part of IC is the community.  I've made some long time friends here, and we are a pretty tight knit group...the down fall of that has been that over the past few years especially it has been hard for new players to integrate into the mix.  Give them a place to get together with some specific friendly veterans who are willing to do the dirty work of acclimating new players...and get them involved in IRC.

Ok I'm done, probably more on this tomorrow.

Agreed with James, some manner of looking back on the recent attack reports would be excellent.  Maybe similar to the recent reports page?  Only you can go back and see the results of your attacks for the past...24 hours or so?

I used to have an excel sheet set up where I could copy paste attack results and keep for the entire round.  Formatting it was a pain, as a lot of things in IC don't like to be copy pasted, but man was it useful.  How often do you send out an attack, hit it, and then need to know what the results were 2 hours later but can't remember?  This may be a strain on the server idk but just a thought.

Orbit's idea would be very useful and I wouldn't think (though I don't really have any idea) that it would be too terribly hard to implement.

You're missing my main point...the public forums are not the place for your discussion.  If you want to get any results, you need to be on IRC in a private chat or in forum private messages with a mod.  I would recommend KT.
