Im not sure you can say the Mosque IS built by radicals Kemp, one sentence from one man does not make the group radicals.

I personally understand your view point about it being too close and the backlash could affect moderate Muslims in America however I am going to play devils advocate for a second.

To me it shows that America is not a bigoted judgemental country, it can discern between the minority terrorists who claim to be Muslim and the actual Muslims practicing the faith. It sends a clear message that the country is not anti Islamic but anti terror.

It is almost an extension of the "non negotiation with terrorists" policy. Al Quieda are not capable of dictating American policy - they tried to cause a division between Christian and Islamic Americans and look, working in harmony to spread understanding near the 11/9 site.

It also provides a victory for the moderates over the radicals, they are not being treated the same by the Obama administration, the distinction is clearly there - the evil Imams that exist to convert people to radicalism can hardly say look at how America treats us when this Mosque is built.

Nor is it disrespectful to the victims, the Muslims building and praying in the Mosque did not support nor take part in the terror attack, they had no links and will not be glorifying it, the fact they are Muslim does not matter, it would be like war veterens protesting outside Sony America saying that having a Japanese business in America is disgraceful and disrespects the war dead.

Finally, there are many Americans who simply do not understand Islam, ignorance can lead to fear and mistrust, this is an education centre that will encourage non Muslims to visit and speak to the members about Islam - you cannot win the current war on terror through conflict - Afghanistan has proven that (the fact there is negotiation with the taliban now to bring them into the Afghan government), education might help go a step further in ending the terror threat at home for a start.

The second question was not addressed to you it was addressed to a comment Justinian made and he has subsequently answered, dont troll.

You still have not answered the main question

"My point in regards to the Mosque is where do you draw the line? It is not on the site of the evil terror attacks merely in proximity. If they are not allowed to build where they want to where do you suggest? Is there a real distance where a Mosque stops being offensive?"

If Muslims not affiliated in any way with the terror attack cannot build a place of worship within a couple of blocks of the site because it is offensive and a victory trophy as you put it then where can they build? Where is the cut off which you would accept? I am not trying to be inflamatory but genuinly curios? Is 1 mile offensive but 2 acceptable?

Yet if it was a church no one would have been offended Justinian.

Non-existent entity? While the entity of Islam exists and it needs a place to gather worshipers, these American Muslims are paying taxes, no places of worship, many worshipers go abroad, taking their taxes with them plus any companies they run/own.

Why is non western barbarian in your eyes? That shows a narrow minded view point that borders on the scary.

If they wanted to build it on the 9/11 site I would happily help burn it down as it would be incredibly insensitive, but they dont.

The Imam looking to build the Mosque made an ill advised though not factually incorrect statement. The foreign policy of America DID contribute to the terror attack. Osama Bin Laden believes (mistakenly) in his cause of freeing up the Arab world from American influence, I dont agree with him, I believe the man is evil, but if America had no influence there the attacks would not have taken place.

Finally you claim this is a trophy site sought by your enemy. Who is your enemy? Al Quieda or Islam? To my knowledge there is not a single member of Al Quieda pushing for this Mosque, which would infer that the people who are are classed as your enemy by the fact they are Muslim.

It could all be a double bluff, you might only think that the bill of rights offers you protection because the secret evil government is pacifying you through ideology and........actually I agree with V. Kemp on this one!

I am a Christian, I believe in evolution as the tool God provided (as did Darwin) however Einstein has raised a very good point.

How many of us have spent time in a lab analysing carbon dating, fossils and evidence?

Too many "facts" people accept are merely statements repeated lots by different people, our evidence is coming from "but it was written down in a science book" for too many things now.

An evolutionist who accepts it without taking part in research is no different to a creationist accepting the 7 day creation without applying logic.

Keep an open mind guys!

The man has clearly demonstrated he cannot cope with a bi product of the job, the public.

Years of service does not matter, if the job is too stresful he should leave, not break the law. I am sure he would be calling for a fine or prison sentence if a member of the public had pulled the emergency lever and deployed the slide.

It always reminds me of Rambo 3 where he is riding with the noble Taliban to fight off the soviets.

TImes change though, it is naive to think any country is governed by morals, Britain and America have installed and supported brutal dictatorships only to then turn on them when they no longer served a purpose.

This is not neccesarily a bad thing, the role of a government is to provide for its people and further the countries aims - supporting militants when they are fighting an enemy (the soviets) makes sense.

So does removing them when they bite the hand that feeds.

America was not a super power in WW1, Germany and Britain were, if Britain had fallen and Germany taken far less losses and not been forced to meet reperations at Versaille she would have raised up as the one true Super Power in the world.

Japan who based itself on German expansion and militarization would still have attacked American interests in Asia and the Pacific. It is believable that Germany and Japan would have agreed to split the world between east and west and launched a joint assault on the US (after all Germany had no qualms in abandoning allies in either war or in history). America was not geared for a modern war at this time, fighter planes, tanks, modern weapons and tactics were developed by Britain and Germany. America would have fought bravely as they did in 1917 but eventually would fall.

German scientists including Einstein would have developed Nuclear weapons long before Japan (dont forget German and British nuclear research was far in advance of any other nation at the outset of WW2) Japan would have been destroyed and the world would now be run by one unified Government.

They better not build a church anywhere near where Timothy McVeigh bombed Oklahoma City! Sacrilege.

Oh wait, no its only Muslims who are all terrorists.

To be fair its a religion whose followers are told to go into the world and convert people that has a history of violence and links to several terrorist organisations....oh wait I am talking about Christianity again!

The point I am making is as a Christian I find it laughable the way people automatically get hysterical over the word Islam. There are 1.2 billion Muslims in the world, 99.9% are peaceful yet they all judged by the 0.1% by some people on here.

They are not building a Mosque on the site of the world trade centre, there is a fairly large monument there, that means it is not offensive - if you get offended at a Mosque being vaguely near the site then you must be offended at Muslims occasionally walking near it, which means they shouldnt be allowed in new york! Which means they shouldnt be allowed in the USA! WE ARE WITH YOU KEMP! DEATH TO THE INFIDEL MUSLIMS!

Idiot.

Im basing this on a friends account of how his wife had complications and infection after pregnancy.
150,000 bill that his insurance apparently didnt cover (yes his fault maybe for not reading the small print)

I am not arguing private is better, it clearly is, my problem though is if someone cannot afford insurance or at least good insurance they can end up being bankrupted due to falling ill.

I pay national insurance as well as my private medical care and I dont mind. I make payments each month to cover hospitals, police, fire etc I dont mind, I can afford it.

If i lose my job I am not expected to keep up my national insurance payment but I am then still covered for ALL illnesses on NHS.

I like the additional level of security - I cannot understand the fear and paranoia from the press in the States. I saw articles showing Obama as both a communist and a nazi all because he was trying to help the millions of Americans currently with no health cover.

I feel our team is still better then Germany. That said in football results speak louder then words, England fans will cry foul about the goal (as starting second half 2-2 the game would have been different)

I seem to recall Germany dropped half a team and fired the manager after England beat them 5-1 I think we should take a leaf out of their book.

This is frankly shocking, no disrespect to the smaller teams but this is a result i would expect for Germany against a shit footballing nation - the fact we are not only losing but being humiliated in a game we were faves for is appalling.

Capello promised the final - maybe we shouldnt have rushed forward with new contract negotiations....

Yes they have the choice between massive debt or just getting on with it.

If you are in a position to afford medical then brilliant, I go private as I feel I have worked for it.

If I was poor though, its nice to know we can go to hospital for the birth of my child without having $150,000 bill

Well it looks like that call isnt mattering now - its called defence England (look in to it)

Well so far its a good game, cannot believe that the ref has missed Englands goal though, if we go out 3-1 I still think the game would have been hell of alot different if the ref had spotted it (like everyone else did)

Still fair play to Germany, their attack looks more dangerous, our defence is shocking.

Meh, I still find it shocking to be honest.
One of the things I like about America is its apparent togetherness, the patriotic us vs the world attitude.
It doesnt seem to fit with "I aint paying an extra ten dollars a year so some poor ass unemployed scum can get access to medical health care! Thats what a Commie Hitler would propose!"

Yet I spose its a simple fact of upbringing, no Englishmen of my generation would accept the UK going private only and not many Americans of Kemps generation would accept free health care for the poor.
That said I think if Obama offered each individual a blowjob from a super model of their choice their are some on here who would claim it was a leftie plot of some sort!

You know as much as I think Germany will win how amazing would it be if we snuck it?

Dont forget Switzerland beat Spain
Serbia beat Germany
South Africa beat France
Slovakia beat Italy
and yes Ghana beat USA

Seems to be the World Cup of the underdog!

This is the last showing for Englands so called golden generation - should have won the world cup in 2002 (crashed out due to a ridiculous goal against eventual winners Brazil) performed awfully in 2006 and have made a shakey start to put it mildly to 2010, think alot of players are going to be dropped after this world cup to hopefully bleed in a few young lions.

In 2002 you had the likes of Seamen, Neville, Ferdinand, Cole, Beckham, Scholes, Lampard, Gerrard, Owen plus most of the current line up on the bench. Seamen, Neville, Beckham, Cole and Owen are all out of the National team, Lampard, Gerrard, David James, Heskey should all be out at the end of this tournament.

Exciting times ahead for England hopefully.

Not sure what the age is like in the US squad?

We have seen the early goal conceded by the States time and again, what impresses me is their heads never drop - they look to see how they can get back into the game.

You saw the difference between US and Eng, when we scored the US picked themselves up and tried to win, when US scored we looked like we were merely concentrating on not getting an embarrising loss against our names.

72

(523 replies, posted in General)

To me this is where the world cup gets exciting, you have the fun of seeing big teams crash out but its really make or break now.

I for one am obviously looking forward to Eng vs Ger

I think we are going to lose and even if we scrape it we then face Argentina so its not looking good for the English - still not decided on my second team yet, might say Ghana just as they the last African team in it!

If still tied a penalty shoot out.

America did their country proud, many didnt think they would get through the group let alone nearly make the last 8 - a good game!

The best thing to realise is the USA didnt go out without trying, they played well and should all be proud!
