you kids claiming to be worried about the threat of nuclear war! Pshaw! IN MY DAY we had the threat of nuclear war!  We had B-52s with nuclear-armed cruise missles in the Arctic ocean, refueled midair by tankers, holding station 2 hours from targets inside Russia!  We had 16 Ohio-class missle boats each with 24 ICBMs that could throw a nuke into China from the Atlantic Ocean!  We had Peacekeepers in hardened silos, and we had the MX on rail wagons!  We had Pershing II short-range nukes al through Western Europe! Our carriers had nuclear-capable fighter-bombers!

We were two hours from bombing Russia into a glass desert, and we had spy satellites watching the heat signature of Russia to give us a realtime alert of a rocket taking off for orbit, so we could have fired off our birds 10 minutes after Andropov!

You don't know what fear is! We saw Commie conspiracy in everything! not like "Obama is a commie" cause he likes them! Back then he'd be a fellow traveler, and the real commies had radios in their toilet to call Moscow and get orders!  And we found some!

In 1984 Reagan was told that the Soviet Spetnatz would infiltrate America with saboteurs disguised as Olympic athletes, so he told them their atheletes to the LA Games would have a curfew and American security at all times! So the USSR sat out the Games!   Yuri Andropov ordered the KGB to find PROOF Reagan was going to do a first-strike, so Andropov could first-strike and blame us with evidence! This NATO strike was supposedly code-named "RYAN", so when "Hunt for Red October" came out about a CIA agent named JACK RYAN tearing up Russia's naval power, Andropov went ape! That's the kind of crap that went on!

IN MY DAD'S DAY they had to do atomic drills at school! Which were earthquake drills! But they called them atomic drills! So when they found 30 piles of ash in the rubble, they could ID them by the seating chart!  That's all they were good for!

This is real! You can tell by all the !!

Did I mention they shot the Pope for being too cool? They shot the Pope! He was too cool!

"fundamentalists on both sides"??

Jim claims he can fart himself over the Eiffel Tower

do I have to find "middle ground"?  Is saying "no it is physically impossible for you to fart yourself over the Eiffel Tower" a form of "fundamentalism"?

I never claimed I had a contrary competing and superior model of global climate, i said nobody had one that worked.
I'm proved right.
I am to be embarrassed for being right?

This is more about avoiding the social cost of admitting a mistake to the "wrong people" than it is practicing science, and has been for decades.

"Despite the uncertainties and contradictions, the IPCC insists that it is more confident than ever – 95 per cent certain - that global warming is mainly human’s fault."

Right, that's why the warming stopped while CO2 kept rising. Because rising CO2 causes global warming.
That's why governments were talking about taxing CO2 emissions, because it has no effect on global climate.
That's why swings in temperature were recorded in the middle ages in Europe, because mass industrialization determines our climate.

Funny how science has no room for observational data.

Remind me what's the scientific test for AGW? The absence of GW doesn't disprove it apparently.  What disproves this scientific theory?

and leave your shoes at the airport

A man who openly masturbated on a Stockholm beach has been acquitted of sexual assault in court after it was ruled he was not targeting a specific person, with the prosecutor saying it's "okay" to play with yourself in public.

The incident occurred on June 6th at the Drevviken beach when the man removed his shorts and began masturbating close to the water. He was subsequently charged with sexual assault.

The Södertörn District Court has now acquitted the 65-year old in a judgement which stated that it "may be proven that the man exposed himself and masturbated on this occasion".

However, the court added that no offence had been committed as the masturbating man was not pleasuring himself towards a specific person.

Public prosecutor Olof Vrethammar told the Mitti newspaper that he wasn't planning to appeal the ruling.

"For this to be a criminal offence it's required that the sexual molestation was directed towards one or more people. I think the court's judgement is reasonable," he said.

When asked if it was now acceptable to masturbate in public if you don't direct it towards a specific individual the prosecutor said it was "okay."

"The district court has made a judgement on this case. With that we can conclude that it is okay to masturbate on the beach. The act may be considered to be disorderly conduct."

In another recent judgement a 15-year-old boy was acquitted after being previously charged with sexual assault. The teen had thrown his underwear into a lake and stood naked in front of two under-age girls.

The Södertörn District Court said that his behaviour did not have a sexual undertone and the charge was dismissed. Both the girls had requested the boy be charged with molestation.

Xeno

go take your 1300s map of "Hungary" and go get a modern map of Europe and count how many different nations assert independent rule on "traditional" lands of Hungary.  You cannot have it both ways, that language should determine borders, but the "loss" of Croatia to the Croats is some sort of "taking" from Hungarians.  Not that it matters worth a damn since you are all subjects of the European Union.

Obama will speak on Syria.  I look forward to hearing the new story

I will erase even the memory of Syria from the histories! Every piece of Syrian parchment shall be burned. Every Syrian historian, and every scribe shall have their eyes pulled out, and their tongues cut from their mouths. Why, uttering the very name of Syria, or Assad, will be punishable by death! The world will never know you existed at all!

obama is selling this as a limited strike that will over time bring down Assad without us going in after him.

What if he declares war on the United States?

Then we have to go in and get him, for our "credibility".  We can't sit around throwing a few bombs into Syria for years and make it stick.  We'd be a laughingstock.

And what about NATO?  Would all you guys declare war on Syria with us? Or would there be a general sense of "Iiiiiiiii warned ye, but did you listen? OH NO. Go on ahead and get your ass kicked"

The scenario is so obviously a clusterfreak that I'm just glad that Putin isn't involved to shove Assad towards dying on his feet instead of going quietly.  OH WAIT. PUTIN IS THERE UP TO HIS EYEBALLS
