1. a. They won't disclose the backers.

Is it unusual for a person backing the building of a religious structure to want anonymity?
Is it unusual for the person who will use said religious structure to repect peoples right to privacy?
What if it was just a businessman, would that make a difference?

1. b. Rauf says he'll take funding from Saudi Arabia and Iran if it happens to come from Iran.  We don't like Iran.  At all.

You don't like the Church of Scientology either, but let them build anywhere they like, regardless of the rumours of their lies, thefts, murders, and their weak and gullible sources of funding.

1. c. Rauf has been quoted by Reuters, speaking overseas yesterday, that the controversy is the sort of discussion the mosque is meant to develop.

So he wants people to think and talk about Islam, just like your preacher, pastor, bishop or vicar wants you, your neigbourhood, and anyone who drives past the church to think about Christianity. Is that a crime?

1. d. I don't feel a burden to prove somebody's future intentions.  If you're wrong and it turns out as bad as we think it will be, will you help us tear it down? Then its legit to argue about not building it in the first place.

Were the situation not so hypocritical and un-christian I might, but unfortunately for America it already has a place of worship proven to be a source of hate and illegal activity; the Westboro Baptist Church.
Treat that place in the same way as you are treating this mosque, and I will respect your even-handedness, but I still won't like you.

2. 3 blocks? The building it's to be in was hit by part of the planes.  For me if they're 3 blocks, then so what.

Ok.

2) This question has already been addressed. I'm sure everyone who objects to this location for a mosque built by radicals would have a varying opinion of what's appropriate. But they're all farther away than this location where the building was hit by a plane's landing gear during the attacks. This is really a moot point. I'm going to decline to bicker about the difference between 500 and 800 yards in favor of leaving more room for content.

You say that distance is not part of the discussion, and should never be, and then you point out that this building was close enough to be hit by a piece of plane, therefore making distance an issue again.
In your personal opinion, should there even be a mosque within New York?

3.  Yeah there's a Greek orthodox church that was wrecked that will not be rebuilt, says the city.  The church found that out by watching an interview on TV.

That is tragic, but is it the City's responsibility to rebuild the Greek Church? And while I think about it; does not the "mosque building" already exist?

3) None built by radicals as victory shrines for a great victory on 9/11.

What makes you think this is a Victory shrine and not a genuine place of worship? How many muslims can the proposed mosqu cater for, and how many muslims WORK* in the area?

*Muslims have to pray 5 times a day. Muslims work in that district. Like it or not, they might actually need that mosque.

__________

4) Has there ever been a mosque in this specific area before?

5) Where?

Mujahideen

The West gave them guns, bombs, and training to fight off invaders. They have since become terrorists of their own free will, their own choice.
If you want to blame The West for something, some source of evil we can all use to distract ourselves from the dirt and drudgery of our working lives, point at Iran.

Newton, Einstein, Darwin etc were all religious and all were fairly sensible in my opinion.
Stephen Hawking refuses to rule out the existence of God though he accepts that Gods existence is not neccesary.
One US politician I really respect is Roosevelt, a man who showed a lot of sense yet he was a religious man.
Anyway I go off topic. <

I know this wasn't directed at me, but that was a very good point and I stand corrected.

> As long as a politician does not expect people to follow their religious viewpoint I am not sure it matters - that goes for atheist, Christian, Muslim etc I have met far more preachy narrow minded atheists in my life but I recognise the fact that preachy narrow minded theists also exist - as long as a candidate is willing to concede their belief might be wrong and dont force it on people I am fine with that. <

Maybe the real question should be "Would you vote for a narrow minded person"?

> Next question - why is being a "bad christian" so politically dangerous in US politics? 70% of couples no longer wed and their is a growing trend for Children to be born out of wedlock yet both these facts can be used as political ammunition against candidates. It seems to be a given that the candidate who is a "bad christian" will not be elected - we have never had an open atheist candidate to my knowledge in US politics but I assume it is because they fear it harming their campaign - why? <

If what you say is true, then the answer is; Because most Americans are hypocrites.

"We can't vote for her, her daughter had a baby outside of marriage!"
"Hun, you know we're not married, right?"
"Yeah, but-"
"And we only go to church because if we don't our parents won't talk to us any more?"
"Well-"

Funny thing is we have the same problem in the UK. Over 60% of the population is openly Atheist or Agnostic, and yet Tony Blair kept his Catholicism quiet the whole time he was at number 10.
Wait... that actually makes sense... never mind.

Maybe the real question should be:

Would you vote for an individual?

If two condidates with two identical, agreeable, policies stood for office, and the only difference between them was that one was an Atheist and one was a Theist I'd be more inclined to vote for the Atheist simply because I am prejudiced towards my own idea that Atheists are less prone to flights of fancy, and outright irrationality.

In other words, I would not have voted for a guy who openly admits he is a literal-creationist. It's like giving a reincarnationist a job at nuke-command; "I'll get you next time...."

@USA:

1) What kind of proof, exactly, do you have that makes you believe that this mosque is a terrorist-funded victory-mosque and not a genuine place of worship for the local Islamic community?

2) Exactly how many blocks away from the WTC site is acceptable, if two blocks is not?

3) Are there any other places of worship within a similar radius?

Acolyte "Me too. I've refrained from any serious replies to this thread because of his ambiguity in referring to the subject. It's unclear whether or not he even believes his own posts about dinosaurs co-existing with man. I'm not one for attacking strawmen, and until his position has been made clear, he can accuse any serious rebuke of precisely this. I'd rather avoid leaving him an avenue of argumentative escape and cut off any chance of a cop-out defense."

Good point, but he has been rather open about his "Christianity". Although you do raise a good point, it could be that Flint/Einstein is just a 'troll, or an ADD case.
Either way I wish he'd just [] off and not come back until he learns how to play properly.

Inspired by Avogadro's thread, and because I haven't been an arsehole to anyone for a while, I would like any American posters here who can speak a non-continental American language to say so here.
Oh, and it would be nice if you said what languages you speak, too.

Now remember, no continental American languages allowed. wink

You do realise that this proves we can, with a high degree of certainty, trust what we are told, right? Think about it; how long did the "lie" last before it was questioned by scientists, including scientists with something to lose by questioning it?

That answer is how long it would take for the truth to be revealed should anyone discover that the answers provided by certain dating techniques were just plain wrong.

> Einstein wrote:

> Today I wish to talk gospel in a way you do not expect.

I will speak of the act of Lying, of Lies, of The Lie.

The first sin created was a lie. Satan deceived himself, lucifer as he was known as lied to himself that he deserved more.

On Earth he caused the first sins of lying.

Lucifer lied to Eve, Eve lied to Adam, and they all lied to God.

To me all sins are based upon the original sin. If you steal you feel you deserve it... A lie to yourself.

If you murder you have lied that you had justification, cause, need, or otherwise.

This is where true evil hides, in a lie.

And it flourishes, grows, and multiplies.

Our whole history is a lie. The Bible is supposed to be perfect... Written by monks who decided what got added and what was not added.

We are not perfect, this is truth. Anything we write about the one perfect being is tainted by our imperfection.

There is a chance the old Testament was truth, but translation makes it imperfect.

Once all men and women spoke of Christ, as if modern pastors. No longer.

I say you must learn of your lies, watch for those who base arguments upon them.

Lucifer started pushing his lures truly hard again, starting in his most recent strain about a hundred years ago as far as I can  discern.

We may be near the end, for ignoring the divide between beliefs is a lie. Acknowledging the divide exists is truth. How wide can be debated, but not its existance.

This divide may trigger the war mentioned in Revelations, which if not a lie can be assumed to be mostly correct. Survival, belief, death, disbelief.

Who here besides myself see's the future, knows what comes, and is scared? I do not wish to utter "congratulations, you destroyed the world", and yet those words ring loudly in my ears. For this war will destroy so many lives.

Back however to the main topic.

Forcing a belief of homosexuality is a lie if you believe forcing it will fix all, or that the word marriage must be used. There are further lies here, but I shall not change this from lies.

You lie if you say illegal torrents are ok for you.

You lie if you say all abortions do not take life, most simply proven by removing the could be child at the chosen time and seeing if it could survive.

You lie if you say illegal aliens have a right to be here, for the law in intent, desire, and form says they are not to be here.

If the lie controls your life then maybe this can wake you, though I would bet against it.

If you meet a person stuck on the lie then do not trust them, for they lie.

If a belief structure relies upon lies for survival, how can it be treated as gospel, or as truth? <

@FLINT
You can choose to ignore any question you (dis)like:

1) Do you believe humans and dinosaurs walked the Earth at the same time?

2) Do you believe the Earth is not 4 billion years old?

3) Do you believe the Earth is 6000 years old?

4) Do you believe the Earth was created in seven days?

5) Are you aware that, according to the transcriptions of the oldest bibles, the word "day" was mis-translated from the word "age"

6) Are you aware that the bible as we know it today was written by mortal, fallible, selfish men?

7) What was our level of technology at the time we allegedly walked with dinosaurs? Stone-age? Bronze age? Pointy stick age (for want of a better term)?

8) How would any buildings, and therefore any towns or cities, have withstood a herd of migrating longnecks?

9) Given that even now humans, without our mighty guns and bullets, die very quickly when versus nature (bears, snakes, crocodiles, dogs, wolves, big cats, mountain lions, komodo dragons); Why weren't we eaten out of existence by the many carnivores that were either much bigger than us (T-Rex, Alasaur, etc) better built/designed than us (eg. our max speed is 5 mph but even a plant eater like Triceratops could do 15mph) or simply more numerous or more dangerous than us (Raptor)?

10) Given the fact that everything in nature today is better designed than us regarding simple survival, and that dinosaurs were clearly even better designed for the task of survival, and that in any disaster of any nature or cause we humans die in droves: Why are we still alive and dinosaurs are not?

11) How could humans have survived a big rock falling out of the sky, striking the Earth with the force of thousands, if not millions of megatons, causing a blastwave that would have encircled the entire globe several times, followed by several years of nuclear winter, whilst lava, rocks and other pieces of the Earth itself that were thrown up into the air and orbit are falling out of the sky causing superfires at best and massive widespread impact damage at worst (imagine shotgunning a ball with incendiary shells for two years straight), all whilst literal acid rain is falling... Imagine the apocalypse, imagine armageddon, and tell me: How did we survive when they could not?
