A brief explanation:

This is not a place to discuss any political issue.  This is the suggestion box.  Post your ideas for possible discussions within the politics forum.  When considering making a topic for the forum, topic creators can refer to this list to give them ideas for issues to discuss, whether to explore new areas or hear otherwise unheard opinions.  Below is a general list of possible topics for discussion.  The list is not meant to evoke any particular set of beliefs.  I am just putting ideas on the list as they are suggested.

Warning: This will be a LONG list, ideally, and will need the input of as many people as possible.  As I am hoping for a comprehensive list, this includes domestic political issues within different countries.  If you have any ideas, feel free to post them.

Note: If your issue is country or region-specific, say that.
Also, please refrain from overly general topic ideas, when possible.  I.E.: America-Being Evil=A bad topic.  America-Foreign intervention=better
When searching the thread for ideas with respect to certain countries, I suggest you check both the international and domestic issues sections.  Categorization in and of itself is a subjective, and therefore politicized, process (example: Is human rights an international issue).  What you may see as a domestic issue may be placed as an international issue simply due to a different interpretation.

Special thanks to Torqez, who approved this message, and bazinga, who helped develop the idea.

LIST STATUS: By no means done.  I haven't finished the International section, and will need help especially in the Domestic Issues section and the International section in regards to European issues.  NOTE: For domestic issues, we can be much more specific than under international issues.  For example, "economy" would probably be a dumb discussion under the US domestic, especially when you can get in depth on economic issues.

What does intelligent design have?

One thing I want to address: Intelligent design is NOT a competitive theory with evolution or science.  It never was intended to be such.  Rather, its only purpose was to address the issue of whether or not creation and scientific theory (specifically, evolution) are mutually exclusive.  If you believe in intelligent design, you do believe in evolution.  You just have an additional stipulation on that belief.

That's just retarded.  Then you get most of the problems of blackmail (backing someone into a corner) without any possible physical benefit.

3,445

(60 replies, posted in General)

That's even worse.

Now you're entrapping her to do the very same thing that for which you're blackmailing her.  That means she can never get out of the behavior.  Three implications:

1: That provides another risk that her husband will find out.  Oops!
2: Now you're definitely breaking the law: It's called prostitution.
3: That gives you more blackmail material, keeping her locked into the blackmail... in her eyes.  You could easily turn around and say "Okay, I agreed not to tell your husband about that guy you were sleeping with.  But now you just did this with me.  Pay up."

Cuz the bitch deserves a smacking

You're oversimplifying it.

Assume he approaches the woman, and she says no.  You go to the phone to tell her husband.

If she cares about keeping this secret (which she apparently does), you're forcing her into a hostage situation.  She must either watch her life fall apart before her, or she must somehow stop you.  She has only moments to even think of something.  That is a physically dangerous situation, equivalent to daring a murderer to shoot you.  You're bringing a person into utter desperation, pretty much creating the situation for her to do anything at that point to stop you.  Once a person crosses the boundary of the law and is willing to break the law to stop what they see coming... there's no bounds to what she can do.

Now assume she says yes.  She still doesn't know if you will actually keep your word, since you're already "the bad guy" in her eyes.  Same problem.

EDIT: If you do end up telling her husband, then you've branded yourself.  YOU are the bad guy.  YOU are responsible for destroying this person's life, at least in her eyes.  As such, if she does end up going crazy and wanting to seek revenge, who does she take revenge against?  Not her husband.  You.

Depending on the country where you live, blackmailing can be illegal.  I would advise against it.

In addition, you are forcing them into a fundamental trap: that person can never be sure that you will keep your word.  True, it's in your economic interest to not break your word later.  But what's to say you won't demand something else later on?

Your "best interest," in this case, isn't to make a deal.  It's to make a deal (maybe get $10,000), collect the money, then a couple years later, say "oh, I need money now.  Give me $5,000 more or I'll spill" again.  She knows this.  Therefore, she'll act based on that assumption.

What does that mean?  If you've already violated her trust by threatening to tell her husband, then there's no reason she should believe you will keep the secret later.  Your offered word at this time is a terrible deal, regardless of what  you hold over her.  It becomes the equivalent of a hostage negotiation: If you don't think you can win back hostages by making a deal, you are forced to get the hostages back by forcefully taking back the hostages.  In this case, she would only have one option: somehow level the playing field with you.  The method can be left to the imagination.

Suffice to say, simple psychology says this is a stupid idea.

A couple questions, then:

1: What's the difference between federal and local government?  Why is one level acceptable, while the other isn't?
2: But you do agree that public education is overall probably a beneficial system under a conservative framework, correct?
