M1 Garand yes, but they're like $1800 and up.  You can get them for $400 if you swear not to overthrow the govt and join a local shooting club.*  It's a holdover from WWI, the Army gives surplus rifles to promote better marksmanship in the draft pool.

M14 no, because they all had fire selectors and are technically machine guns, US Army never will release them.  M1A is commercial semiauto model.  I've heard US govt is nasty and bars Norinco Chinese $400 knockoffs of the M1A.  Guess I should have Alch smuggle some Norinco .308 barrels down from Canada so I can make a legal Gatlin gun

* I'm not gonna get any gun by swearing anything then registering with the Feds... not after Bush had the Army illegally grab guns in New Orleans

OUR per capita crime rate? 95% of the UK was either looting and burning Harrod's, taking bribes from the Daily Mirror, processing bribes from the Daily Mirror, or offering bribes on behalf of the Daily Mirror.  2% were off in Afghanistan, 1% are members of the Royal Family, and 3% publish false statistics for the Home Office

"You are arguing about physics, something which my above example actually needed an understanding of before practical usages were even imaginable. It is like saying that the man who discovered Uranium must have had Nuclear power in mind before he discovered the ore, or even the massive heat/energy given off when bombarded with neutrons. "

And then i gave the first uses of uranium ore (pitchblende).  It was on topic.

if I wanted to go offtopic I'd ask if the Higgs bosun rated higher than the Rowley Gunnersmate

pitchblende was sought after for the nice colored glass it made, and then when its radioactivity was learned, it was refined for health tonics

An imperial system with subject provinces and slavery is not a free market system.  Especially when combined with autocracy.

I don't think either Rome had free markets, they regulated the use of mechanization like millwheels, slave labor is by its essence managed labor, they also made damn sure Egypt's grain went to Rome rather than anywhere else.
