They are now.  This President makes illegal demands on boards to appease lefty anger at their wealth, then abuses his office to waive prosecution of corporate boards that follow him.  The boards know they're gonna get paid millions whether they obey or not, because they only have a certain number of years at the company...and the feds will bailout the company when the President's bonehead idea fails.  The President claims credit for trying, blames the board for failing, and the board takes a few dozen million and slips into anonymity.  Best racket since Frank Costello squeezed labor unions and passed the black tax to the consumer

Angry shareholders and the courts keep behemoth corporations in check, and destroys their organization when they fail.

Behemoth corporations propped up forever by tax dollars is the worst case scenario because it undermines the very currency in your pocket.
JP Chase has already lost 5 billion dollars in stupid risky trading.
GM continues to make cars nobody but govt will order.
Why not? Why improve? They're backed by the Federal Reserve!

"This Robinhood tax repairs some of the damage: the rich suffered less financial losses per capita than did the poor and middle class.   If government decreased taxes on the poor and middle class respectively, such a tax then would restore wealth inequality levels to what they were pre-2007.  This would still not be conducive to better representative liberal democracy, but would be better than where we currently are."

""The collection of any taxes which are not absolutely required, which do not beyond reasonable doubt contribute to the public welfare, is only a species of legalized larceny," -- Calvin Coolidge

You are a thief looking to steal.  You are lower than the thief who steals food from the hands of a child -- such a thief just wants food to eat.  You want to steal so that your victim does not enjoy the fruits of his labor, and, to compliment yourself on the finesse of your theivery.

>>People by their understanding of the inherent value of every human being's life everywhere, not just in their community, region or nation, and by their awareness of the value of life in general, not just human life, and their awareness of the interconnectedness of all of us, all life, and our place in the universe, could come to view one person's excess as encumbering on the opportunity of other humans and other life to fulfill their basic needs.  In other words, it would be considered unethical to pursue excess if there were a single person elsewhere in our world who was malnourished or starving; that it would be unethical to pursue excess when any species of life on the planet might be endangered by said pursuit; that it would be unethical to use up finite resources in the pursuit of excess when such would hinder the potential of our species (or any species that might ever evolve sentience on our planet in the future) to explore the stars, and thus survive.<

So what's the price of a melon?
Enough to compensate me for the cost of bringing it to market, and against the costs of bringing next year's crop, plus a margin to meet all my needs?
Or does it fluctuate bearing in mind my customers may have more needs (your example: they want to have 4 kids) so I need to give my "excess" to them in the form of a cheaper melon?
Would I set aside for the spaceship from each transaction, or every year IF I'm still in business?
These are problems that must be confronted by a voluntary system of ethical commerce, each person must answer them.
IF you impose an ethical system where each person has no way to determine the rightness of their acts, you are merely imposing tyranny where some people are punished for waht they don't consider bad behavior, and their neighbors look away because its easier than challenging the mysterious accusations of Authority.

>>"To each according to his ability from the remainder from the fulfillment of every person's basic needs."

Is this not sufficiently differentiated from communistic ideal, The Yell?<<

Nope.

The only difference between you and any other Marxist school is what you consider a basic need. You have said people need to have as many kids as they want, and humanity needs to set aside resources to evacuate the planet.  You feel free to condemn free choice that falls into your definition of "excess" to meet your definition of "needs".

"This change in awareness I believe is possible by making the sum of all our acquired knowledge easily available and accessible to all for minimal price, determined through an authentically-functioning free market system, free of regulation, manipulation, etc... "

you have never explained how the Free Market is going to award people value based on their anticipated needs such as a desire to have a larger family

you brought that up as an example of current repression: people couldn't have all the kids they wanted.

you claim the free market will solve it.

You never explain how.  That's my "melon scenario" -- how can people offer value in exchange for value and EACH PERSON with varying
"needs" gets their varying "needs" met?   How can you offer something for sale to people and get enough to feed 2 kids without taking from your customers who want to keep value to raise their own kids?  Does the price change for people who want no kids?

please justify your assertion that a voluntary system will meet these requirements

In the exploitative situation the vendor decides what he needs to get from each sale and that's the price, you claim this is exploitatin of customers who need to pay a lower price to keep their wealth

LONDON (AP) -- Ireland's Olympic team is investigating one of its athletes for betting on an opponent to win at a pre-London Games event.

The Olympic Council of Ireland said Saturday that an athlete made a $4,800 profit on the wagers, and withdrew $4,435 in cash from an account with a gambling operator.

"At the moment, it is between the Olympic Council of Ireland legal department and athlete's counsel," team spokesman Jack McGouran told The Associated Press by telephone.

The athlete's name and sport will not be disclosed during the legal process, the team official said. The details also were not identified in a report Saturday in the Irish Independent daily.

The Irish team, which has 66 athletes registered at the London Games, is handling the case while the International Olympic Committee is "monitoring the situation," McGouran said.

"We are aware of it, we are gathering information and will take action if needed," IOC spokesman Mark Adams said.

IOC rules bar athletes from betting on Olympic events.

"We have a proper process of dealing with betting cases which is much more robust than we had before," Adams said, adding that the case appears to have "no effect so far on the games. At the moment it's just to gather the information to decide if there's a case to answer from our side."

Illegal and insider betting in sports has fueled fears that match-fixing and corruption present a bigger threat to the integrity of sports than doping.

The IOC has led efforts in recent years to bring sports federations, law enforcement agencies, governments and the legal gambling operators together to coordinate and fund the fight against betting corruption.

Accepting the premise that "excess" wealth can be "distributed" creates an authority to determine and enforce definitions of "excess" and oversee distribution.

You claim this can be done by the "free market" without any examples of how somebody who accumulates wealth through voluntary commerce is going to end up no better off than people who just want to take language courses and eat and watch television.  You engage in sexual fantasies whereby the entire human race changes how it finds sexual partners.

Your plans for integrated, centralized, coordination of sex, economics and politics offends every person who thinks sex and money should be free of politics, and every person who thinks money and politics have nothing to do with sex, and those hippies who want sexy politics without being tied to material possessions.

Even if a billionaire were to go to Rwanda, build a car factory, build the power plant, build training centers to teach the locals how to make cars, dig a canal to the ocean to transport the finished cars, and provide the funds to get it going, pay payroll, and operate until it started selling cars --

he would have the problem of dozens of thousands of people in Rwanda and Burundi who are eager to blow that shit up to prove who controls burnt jungle.

In Xenoland, women will not try to find the best provider or most aggressive personality.  They will not seek to enjoy wealth.  Rather, they will find guys who refuse to find too much work.

Guys will stop trying to make a job out of everything. Nothing will be regarded as a human problem.  The speed at which food gets from place to place, the size of melons, the shape of wrenches, will all be accepted without complaint.  Nobody will work to sell things faster or cheaper.  It will be shameful to brag about selling more wagons in a day.  It will be shameful to brag about building a house cheaper than others.   It certainly won't pay better.

Nevertheless, humanity will spend its days in the pursuit of knowledge, eagerly doing tons of homework.  I bet every course will be Pass/Fail, since being a BETTER engineer won't pay more and you shouldn't brag about it.

This culture will recognize the need to invent spaceships and build them.  The building of them will not make anybody richer or busier than anybody else.   The need for spaceships will not steal wealth from people's families.  Nobody will say "hey get that spaceship out of my way" or "why can't I get the parts sooner, I bet its that spaceship".  This fact of acceptance is essential, since the means of production will be controlled by the public.  Probably at public meetings.  Using (using) the (the) human (human) microphone (microphone) method (method) to (to) make (make) sure (sure) everyone (everyone) can (can) understand (understand) every (every) word (word) said (said) [uptwinkles]

I suggest you read "Wiseguy: A Life in a Mafia Family" by Nicholas Pileggi.  It was closely followed for the movie "Goodfellas".

There's a part in there where Henry Hill mentions most hijackings out of the airport were to order.  This was because having buyers negotiate a price in advance was most profitable.  Some guys just stole whatever and tried to sell it in the basement of Robert's Lounge, but Hill said "that wasn't cooking on all burners".

At one point Hill was stealing cars and selling them in Haiti, running guns out of Rockport Federal Arsenal, hijacking trucks, doing bookmaking, running a bar, and setting up crooked card games out of it, using the bar for stolen credit cards, counterfeiting, and smuggling cigarettes, all at the same time.

People like that are going to work to get an edge, no matter what you say, because they enjoy work and they enjoy doing something unique.  How will you channel their energies? Learning Farsi and barbecue?
