@Khaz Modan
I'm pretty sure that the internet causes people to lose about 20% of their IQ points and lose all social skills. Happened with me when I first got the internet! ![]()
@DPS
I wasn't getting involved in the capitalism debate just yet. I was just defending buffets. ![]()
Next round in which galaxy? ![]()
Buffets are much more orderly here in Las Vegas without much manager direction, probably because since they're usually inside the casinos, the prices are pretty low, allowing customers to be more familiar with the system.
Just wanted to throw that in. ![]()
Perhaps it's not that they just failed to vote. Rather, after hours of bitter debate about which was the best picture, KT and Tia decided to consult psychologists, fashion designers, anthropologists, and other specialties to define what actually makes someone better or worse looking, in the hopes of creating an objective, mathematically based score system to apply to each photo.
That's my story, and I'm sticking to it.
Yeah, I noticed that. ![]()
Define "democratic."

Slight clarification: Although the reproductive process is as you described, your description doesn't tell the whole story. You need to be able to actually survive and earn the right to even have a shot at reproduction before that kicks in. Adaptations in the psyche influence our behavior, which help or hinder our survivability.
This seems like a disastrous case of "nobody is using the same definitions."

Apparently, you haven't met. ![]()

Welcome back!
Was born a born-again Christian, resulting in some odd birth complications...
I want to play!
I just need the tournament delayed a little bit so that I can get some free time.
And buy Starcraft 2.
And buy a computer that can support Starcraft 2.
And move to Europe.
That shouldn't take long!
Classifies "Say something about the person above" as a boredom-alleviating thread...

I call for a recount as well. Counting all VALID votes (Talic's vote occurred after the due date, and thus should not be counted), I was ahead of DYT in the election by one vote. Only that one illegitimate vote given by Talic made it a tie. Even if it is justified to use utterly random tiebreakers, the first of those tiebreakers should always be to throw out questionable votes, not to assume they're legitimate and judge based on pictures
Only a complete Nazi would think that Godwin's Law was stupid. ![]()
Haha! I really liked it! ![]()
Hmm... Phoenix underlines an interesting issue. Anthropologists have long made cases that population growth (at least the birth-level numbers) are based largely on economics. Lesser developed, agricultural nations tend to have higher birth rates because children are seen as short term investments (after a few years, they can start working on the farm and such). In contrast, in Western nations, population growth is flat, if not declining, largely because children go through education for 18+ years, and are huge economic liabilities until then. Thus, if you remove that economic liability, the behavior reaction is apparent: huge population growth levels would strain whatever surplus did exist.
That being said, there is one question that I must ask: Can technological growth outpace population growth in which parents would be under the impression that they can have whatever resources they want, and thus can have as many children as they want? I would guess that it's possible technology could outpace population growth, as technological growth is also an exponential growth model. However, personally, I think we need more time to give technology a leap forward before any transition to this economy model (which I still argue should not be called "resource-based").
Congrats to Gwynedd, who came up with the winning suggestion! ![]()
I have the name selected, but I will wait to announce it until I get a mod to change it. ![]()
Makes sense. Seriously, what else would you do with a turnip other than throwing it at people who hate you?
What elephant? I don't see an eleph-
