Not at all, shutting them out of economic deals would do them far more harm, but it takes time. This is exactly how the first cold war ended.

yup, and apart from the western part "bombing the hell out of them", the usual American tactic doesn't work there.

"Russia is a big baby state, that is a shell of its formerly nothing status.
Czarist Russia, Soviet Russia and Putin's Russia are all the same.....a bullshit bully state w/no real clout."

Russians probably have inferior weapons, but they do have nuclear bombs, and only a few of them are enough to cause a catastrophe.

"wow, mithraism began in the East, popular especially among the Cilician Pirates. where do you get that confused w/ Celtic (western) europe and the whole "heavily influenced" thing, considering not much is known about Mithraism?'"

I'm aware of that, I just meant that the celtic form of it is what eventually influenced christianity. Sorry for confusing you tongue

"If the Leftists, and and Anti-US crowd supports a RUSSIAN Military invasion, and then looks to the US in Afghan and US in Iraq as an example of ...WHY... Russia is allowed to invade Georgia.....I guess my view has been wrong."

Au contraire, I'm everything but in favour of a Russian invasion of Georgia. But it is true that the Americans shouldn't shout too much as they use exactly the same techniques tongue

"After understanding ... NOW... that Georgia was totalitarian PUTIN kind of state, then democratically elected a Pro-Western state,...... KING PUTIN then put sanctions on Georgia.
Georgia then opened its economy to the west, and prospered."

Debatable, Georgia is struggling to prosper, but at this time the Russians are better off than the Georgians.

"PUTIN got pissed, and started to fund and support the separatist movement in the Rouge region.
Hence, the Escalation, and Russian intervention in the INTERNAL happenings of its neighbor.
Its a Russian power play, on its little neighbors that has always been a Russian/Soviet play
After all, Georgia was long ago conquered by IVAN ...... Yes ??   So, Russians believe Georgia to be a Russian territory."

Yes indeed, the Russians invaded a country wich they believe is in many ways theirs. They see it as the West taking control over their zone of influence.

"After looking into this, I see King Putin CONQUERING a sovereign land.  Its wrong.
And you Leftists support it.
This is troubling.   You support Russian aggression, a land grab, and point to your hatred of the US as a reason why it is OK."

No we're not. We're just adding a nuance.

"It truly is possibly the start of a new Cold War.
One, that the Euro-Pacifists will sit out again........."

Hardly. "Sitting out" is quite an understatement.

Newb, I've studied religious history this year, and let me tell you: the babylonians were never mentioned. I'm sure you're confusing it with "Mithras", a religion that existed in celtic Europe and wich heavily influenced christianity (like christmas etc). Another thing you might be refering at is Zoroastrism, wich did influence a lot of religions, and not solely the christian one; and in fairness, it didn't determinated the christial religion at all. There probably is some babylonian influence though, via the judaism, but all in all, it must be quite small, and not distinctive either.
