no discussion about virgo being a big fail. BUT, though what you say is true, now turn things around. Dont look at it from your POV, but from the new player's POV, then consider how many of these new players end up in the good families where they actually learn anything, and how many end up in low-ranked fams with no tutor at hand at all, only to get farmed into inactivity. Thats, at best, a 20-80 ratio. Prolly closer to 10-90. This means we lose most of them before they ever get a chance to learn the game. THAT is what the teaching galaxy would be for, to prepare the new players for a) the harsh reality of galaxies like MW (and even PW atm) and b) the demands put on them to do something useful. And Orion is DEFINITELY not the place to teach them about how the game is played.

banksy, as opposed to many, ive been tutoring players for the last 7-8 years. I'm still willing to do so, hence the post i made to start a teaching galaxy. A hardcore galaxy, however, is not the place to do that. And its not the newbies that bother me most ... though it would take a lot of extra work, if they're active and willing to work for the team, i'll gladly have them. It's the barely-actives who think they can do anything useful in a hardcore galaxy, the divas who dont work in a team coz they're too good for that, and the own-fam-killers that bother me.
And , again, as opposed to many, im not gonna random into this galaxy only to go inactive if i dont like the team, and leave the others out to dry, not my style. But watch how many inactives this galaxy will have for exactly this reason, it's gonna be painful.

edit - @lee : i said that. im honest about it tongue i put it as 'people i can trust' but thats about the same thing, no? smile and i was typing this while you posted, and see, i said exactly the same as you about noobs and people you dont want to play with tongue

You put that exactly right, its too much a TASK to run an economy with people that dont show up in time, go inactive whenever, just plain dont work in a team, etc ad nauseam. And thats not a challenge, i know exactly what i can and cant do in ic, and you know i know tongue i cannot make people more active, i cannot give attackers skill they dont have, and i cant run a fam with inactives or unskilled people and still have fun (its just hard work leading inevitably to frustration, and after more than 10 years im all about having fun and avoiding frustration). Just run your 'fun' galaxies, but open up draco again for those of us who want to play hardcore the way its meant to be.

pfff is this the 'solution' you guys came up with poley? son, i am disappoint.

hc should be about skill, not pure luck. It's bad enough placement on the map has such a big influence on the game, now you're just gonna make it even worse?
i understand why PW is no draft. Obviously. its the newbie galaxy. hardcore is the opposite of newbie. please catch on to the logic here. Its not the job of the experienced players to go motivate and tutor people who played one round as a barely active - which would qualify for this galaxy. Its hardcore, we wanna play hardcore, so we want people we trust at our side, and also people that wont go 'render' (replace with 'baratheon', 'TBO', 'KTiger' if you like) on our asses just for fun.

oh and no, if i say i wont play, i wont play. and i wont in this configuration.

Yay for hc PW. Im NOT going to plan hc infra and eco for a bunch of people i prolly dunno and prolly cant trust. this is EXACTLY why i havent played PW in many years and now also stopped playing MW. I know i can do it. Cant be arsed to put in lots of work so others can screw it up.

Now imagine it would NOT be available for players to join tongue would kinda defeat the purpose no? tongue

dear devs, could you please check the database entry for mods remembering to set up HC galaxies? i think the "set_value <MustSetUpHCGal> 1" is either corrupt, or the database it refers to is tongue thank you big_smile

Failed.

It is a troll in itself, namely a post that takes way too long to say nothing useful at all.

... they seem to have lost the ability to set up hardcore galaxies ! can some dev look into this ?  cool

(didnt know where else to post this, so it occurred to me that a little humor and a barely used forum were the way to go tongue now get to setting up that galaxy boys and girl wink)

you forgot one category : master economist - those people who plan SOR strats and execute them, then plan a fams eco growth and organise it tongue

Yay, we're going to apply a medieval, mostly culturally based concept (usually aimed at keeping a warrior caste loyal to their lord) on an outdated online spacegame. Please, make the discussions public, i NEED to see this tongue

lol i wasnt even nominated either, so nolio is indeed boosting his chances of winning by failing yet again. Ah well, nothing new ever happens in ic, right? tongue

Whatever einstein thinks up, it is bound to fail. All very nice in pure spreadsheet format, mathematically sound, except he always forgets some variables, and most importantly, he forgets that this is a game with changing circumstances. His 'grand plan' invariably fails due to : other fam members not being on 25 hours per day, leader failing to understand the importance of the (failing) strat and not granting einstein all fam resources for several days, some other fam attacking them (the audacity!), etc. To make a long story short : Einstein jumps (whatever they're supposed to mean this time) fail but it will never be einstein's fault.

dude ! statistics, remember ? they're INTELLECTUALLY insulting ! tongue

hehe i allready gave up on that tongue i tried having a debate, but ran into a wall of staunchly defended slogans and oversimplifications. I even got reproached for a) using actual statistics and b) valuing anothers life more than my right to carry a lethal weapon. Then they went on to rather likening the USA to Bosnia than to western europe. Thats about where i gave up, knowing this thread would eventually evolve into a 'look how much i know about guns' discussion. Mine is bigger anyways guys, and im not talking about guns. *sigh*

ive always done the cf/rc to cf/to switch, and it has always worked for me smile at some point those rcs would make only one or two extra % eco per day due to the formula used (high percentages are ridiculously expensive in RPs), and then you better dont grow too much nw. TOs will give an immediate 50% increase in base income (so actually even a bit more net) at that point. Not a lot of math involved in that, just simple plain common sense tongue

So i offer statistics that can be - repeatedly - found on the internet, from such reliable sources as the united nations and such, and that is an insult to people's intellect. Of course, such insulted intellects would be totally unable to find these for themselves. You, on the other hand, offer no facts whatsoever, just a sentiment, and that IS better. Seems we have a vastly different idea of the meaning of the word intellect.

And of course modern states are capable of turning ugly. All those you mentioned though were governed by one allpowerful political party with a strong and undisposable leader. Modern dictatorships thus. On the other hand we have democracy-inspired particracies which should hold the worst excesses at bay since, if a government oversteps its boundaries, they'll get voted from power next time. Of course, the chance of this is a LOT lower in a particracy with only 2 parties than in a particracy with 14 parties. The closer the particracy resembles a democracy (more choice in who - or what - you vote for) the less chance of abuse. Dont get a gun to defend yourself, get a real democracy* big_smile

*mind that i also said we do not have a real democracy either. Just something that resembles it a little more.

/me throws dried chili peppers in WiWi's eyes.

I am utterly amused big_smile

First, no police force in the 'developed western countries' is as abusive as the american police. Shoot/taser/pepperspray 'm first, ask questions later. No wonder if everyone they try to give a speeding ticket might just pull a gun on them.
And you claim you need guns to protect yourself against an abusive government, yet no government in aforementioned 'developed western countries' deceives (we're still waiting for the WMDs in Iraq), misinforms (the Axis of Evil vs 'hey, theyve got oil') and opresses (no right to privacy, spying on own population, agressive cops, number of people in jail) as much as the american government. Of course, thats just the opinion of those sadly overeducated west-europeans.

Second, I'm glad Einstein you would rather we compare the USA to Bosnia, a wartorn, predominantly muslim country where undereducation is sadly rampant, than to western europe. I can see your point.

So, you value another person's life less than your right to carry a gun. I think the clinical term here would be sociopath.

"The true tragedy of humanity is not that a very small minority owns a very large majority of the resources. The real tragedy is that if things would be turned around today, they would revert to that state in a very short time." - Anonymous

I am still shocked at that rhetoric. I'm belgian, we have outlawed gun ownership (except under the most stringent conditions, and even then, you're not allowed to carry it - at best transport it in a manner that would take forever to get it and use it) and ... hey, look, firearms-related homicides are 10 times higher in the US (per 1000 inhabitants). And before you say 'but then people over there kill each other in other ways', that is only partially true, as intentional homicides per 1000 inhabitants are also 50% higher in the USA than in Europe. And thats just intentional homicides, that number does not take into account the number of people your cops shoot every year coz they were either carrying a gun or were thought to be carrying a gun, or cases in which one person shoots the other in righteous self-defense. You could easily say that one in every two people killed with guns every year would still be alive if guns wouldve been outlawed, the other one out of two is effectively someone out to kill another person by any means and a gun was just the easiest way. So yeah it still holds true : guns dont kill people, people with guns kill people ... its just that people with guns kill people a lot more than people without guns.

And presenting one such instance as an argument FOR gun ownership is silly. It's actually an argument AGAINST it. People will, from time to time, come unhinged, and that happens everywhere. And they will ALWAYS seek a way to turn that into a massacre. Giving them the constitutional right to own and carry guns just makes that very easy. It's enabling them, not stopping them.
