hehe smile well, we killed everyone else, including a fam that hadnt been in a single fight while we fought everyone else. I still think we were the best team in the galaxy, but in the end the constant fighting left us spread thin and vulnerable, and though we gave it our best shot, meija did exactly what he had to do to take us down, and ran off with the win smile So, i tip my hat to you sir, and hope to see you again on the fields of glory, coz now we have a score to settle wink

congrats smile was to be expected, you started with an enormeous advantage (fully portalled, where we were still recovering from war with 35), it was allready a surprise we could keep up with the warjump. Well, we sorta expected to allready lose to 35 so we didnt expect to win at all, but you did a good job in the raids, so, well done smile

Nah 2 years ago gard and i chased some dude around for 36 hours, while he explored or retook one planet each tick. Though Gard had his killfleet out, he couldnt trigger as long as the dude had more than 1 planet. I suspect the fleet detour bug of last year sorta messed this up too, and since there havent been any HC gals since, this one slipped under the radar. That said, i was dead anyways, but id just have loved to make you work for it just a bit longer big_smile

heh too bad the kill-off is still bugged, used to be you couldnt trigger killfleet unless the other guy had no other planets either, i still had some and you still could attack. wanted to entertain you a lil longer still, but hey, was all just postponing the inevitable smile

heh cry-oz, if you had fought with a tenth of our heart and skill, you'd have won the round allready, so crawl back into your corner and hush.

Freak fails, and planet count and nw penalties, have always been around. All that was added were the Oct Hurricane for paxes and the wardancer op. I've checked change logs, announcements and even asked some mods, and the odds for succesfully performing an op have NOT changed. In your example, your pax had 5x the spell power compared to the rev's defense. As i said in my well-meant concepts post, unless you have 10x or more the needed amount (thus, 20x his defense value at least) you'll get freak fails. Since its hypno, quite a few even. So, conclusion, you got unlucky (and i'll admit it was a real bad streak, but hey, they happen) with ops, and now they're 'broken'? *shrug*

Thought id try to clarify a couple concepts that have been around for, well, ever since IC started. Since ive won several best agopper awards, and people like wendy and a couple others were also opping specialists, i would say some people seem to be quite succesful at the opping game. So, if youre not willing to take some wellmeant advice, i can only give you one hint : if the system has been around forever, and others seem to DO make it work, is it the system thats flawed coz you cant make it work, or is it time for some introspection?

well, here goes :

Opping concepts for dummies*

1) Ops are limited, so make sure you have several people able to do crucial ops. Most people dont have loads of op defenses, so an attacker with some useful ops and a good amount of oppers can actually do quite a lot of useful stuff allready.

2) Have specialists, with lots of the relevant oppers, and keep m in reserve. Yes, it seems counterintuitive to not use the best oppers you have, but keep these guys for opping targets that resist your other, less powerful oppers. Keep m for those ops that NEED to happen. This will increase efficiency, and by using the specialists less you also prevent big losses of oppers on freak fails.

3) Small specialists are better than big ones. Yes, the nw and planet count of the opping party compared to nw and planet count of opped party is a factor. When the opping party is bigger than the opped party, a penalty is applied. Mind you, when the opping party is smaller, they do not get a bonus. Still, a small resourcing pax is a lot more efficient at spells than a big popbanking one, coz they face penalties less often.

4) Freak fails. They happen. Unless you have an overpowering numerical advantage (10x the needed amount and more), quite often even. Doesnt matter that you have 3x the amount of oppers where you only need 2x the amount, you'll still fail. Its a game of chance, and every time you engage in opping (most definitely with such ops as hypno, estorms, portal ops and nukes, they seem to get more of these than other ops) you expose yourself to losses. Nothing to be done about it. Calculate it in before you start.

5) Use your ops wisely. Seems logical, but still people seem to do a lot of just-for-the-heck-of-it opping. Consider the long-term effects of ops in a war, and how easy they are to pull off. Depopping a big popbanker might seem like a lot of fun early in a war, but you can bet your ass he has a ton of wizs, and maybe your attackers need some portals down too, and in the long run it'll pay off more to keep their attackers at many ticks from your planets than to hamper their cashflow early on. Maybe you can more easily hamper their income by depriving them of food by casting reduce food production on their easier-to-hit farmer. Do the crucial ops first, and the fun and/or frivolous ones later. Smart fams most often have paxes cpff enemy attacker portals to hamper their attacks, and deprive popbankers of pop by having attackers raiding their planets, instead of having paxes depop bankers and attackers bust other attackers' portals. Its all about the losses vs the gains here.

Hope that helps smile

*1: no im not saying YOU are a dummy crioz, this is a quite normal manner of introducing concepts to the less-informed tongue before we get into yet another shouting match wink
*2: this is opping CONCEPTS for dummies, not opping for dummies. It allready supposes that you know what ops do, which oppers do which ops, how the slider works and so on.

Hey all i said was that you guys were infrawhoring. That means you are not doing anything (not opping, not attacking) except building more eco on more planets. Whether you are active or not, or actually succesful at it or not has nothing to do with anything. You never got into any fights until you had a definite eco lead and your hand was forced since our war with 37 was as good as decided. Hence, you were infrawhoring. Coming from me thats not even an insult or anything, im a big fan of infrawhoring myself. Bit defensive, arent we? tongue

Here its considered an 'acceptable' pils. nothing high-end about it either tongue and thats talking pils, which is not what we really consider beer. Its sorta like table wine and real wine, so to speak. Real Belgian beer is usually brewed in monasteries or at least has its origins in one, and has a tradition of at least 400-500 years if not more, has a higher alcohol content and a much much deeper flavour than pils. Honestly, you like beer, you have to come over at least once ... we can throw in waffles and chocolate to sweeten the deal tongue

That would be rude, especially after all their efforts to put the bad Russians behind bars. Their prison camps are exploding! There can't be anything but good Russians now I figured.

then there cant be bad americans either, and still einstein and yell are complaining about obama like he's the biggest criminal ever tongue

Sorry, your bunkers in Belgium house the mid-range tac nukes you still have here. Or, officially, dont have here, coz thats what OUR government keeps telling us (Luckily you americans werent as hypocrit about it, but seems we signed some treaty we cant admit it, so our politicians keep lying even while the americans have allready admitted it. Some agreements are too silly for words). And lets be honest, having your president killed would be bad, but not having those nukes secure would be a disaster, so i guess it's a matter of priorities tongue

btw Paul, didnt know you were a Belgian too smile And though i think the whole charade around Obama coming here was a little silly too, it pales in comparison to the real costs of housing the EU in Brussels, so whats a measly extra 700k for a day, right? tongue

our fam messed up from the start. i blame devilz tongue picking the wrong race and it not changed till nearly a day into round was just epic big_smile

make their deaths quick. so we can do another round. some more planets would be nice... 3 was far too small imo. 5-8 would have been more interesting.

eh? Gard is actually not doing such a great job ... we're all just happy someone took out Lee ^^ And are you calling us cowards? sad I'd promise you an asswhooping but seems someone else is allready doing a good job at that tongue

That said, the small systems are indeed a pain, certainly in combination with the low protection time, so we couldnt run a research-based jump strat and everyone ended up very close together after 48 hours. Ah well, while everyone else is playing at war, we're saving wink watch us come out in force tongue

Hmmmm Lee, i thought it was clear that with 'taking out the garbage' i meant doing an utterly simple, unchallenging and slightly annoying task. That you take the word garbage as applying to you says more about your view of yourself than about my choice of expressions. it makes me sad that you should think such about yourself. It makes me even sadder that your response would be so uninspired and painfullly simplistic. Next time you want to insult me, my mother, or in fact, right about anyone, please, make it less clear you're grasping at straws. Just some friendly advice from a deeply saddened sympathizer.
